The statute has established the<br />

Furthermore, it added a chancellor for<br />
<strong>Rutgers</strong>–New Brunswick <strong>and</strong> exp<strong>and</strong>ed<br />
the <strong>Rutgers</strong> Board of Governors from<br />
11 <strong>to</strong> 15 members, with eight appointed<br />
by the New Jersey governor<br />
<strong>and</strong> seven selected by the <strong>Rutgers</strong><br />
Board of Trustees.<br />
<strong>Faculty</strong>’s Role<br />
<strong>Faculty</strong> play a major role in guiding<br />
university policy <strong>and</strong> procedures<br />
through shared governance with the<br />
boards <strong>and</strong> senior administration.<br />
The <strong>Rutgers</strong> <strong>University</strong> Senate is a<br />
universitywide representative body<br />
with several additional faculty councils.<br />

Governing Boards<br />
of the <strong>University</strong><br />
Board of Governors<br />
The <strong>Rutgers</strong> <strong>University</strong> Board of Governors<br />
is vested generally with the<br />
government, control, conduct, management,<br />
<strong>and</strong> administration of the<br />
university. There are 15 voting members.<br />
The president of the university<br />
is a nonvoting ex officio member<br />
who implements board policies with<br />
the help <strong>and</strong> advice of senior administra<strong>to</strong>rs<br />
<strong>and</strong> other members of the<br />
university community.<br />

Board of Trustees<br />
The Board of Trustees acts in an advisory<br />
capacity <strong>and</strong> has certain fiduciary<br />
responsibilities over assets of<br />
the university in existence before<br />
1956. The board comprises 59 voting<br />
members <strong>and</strong> four nonvoting<br />
members, one of which is the president<br />
of the university.<br />

Additional Boards<br />
Camden Board of Direc<strong>to</strong>rs<br />
The new Camden Board of Direc<strong>to</strong>rs<br />
provides general supervision of the<br />
campus, subject <strong>to</strong> the authority<br />
of the <strong>Rutgers</strong> <strong>University</strong> Board of<br />
Governors.<br />
Foundation Board of Overseers<br />
A Board of Overseers governs the<br />
<strong>Rutgers</strong> <strong>University</strong> Foundation, which<br />
has raised more than $1 billion over<br />
the last three decades <strong>to</strong> support the<br />
university’s mission.<br />
New Jersey Agricultural Experiment<br />
Station Board of Managers<br />
The Board of Managers serves as a<br />
two-way communications link between<br />
the <strong>Rutgers</strong>’ New Jersey Agricultural<br />
Experiment Station <strong>and</strong> the<br />
County Boards of Agriculture. The<br />
board also advocates for the experiment<br />
station <strong>and</strong> provides advice <strong>to</strong><br />
the executive dean <strong>and</strong> direc<strong>to</strong>r of<br />
the experiment station on affairs<br />
concerning the experiment station’s<br />
programs.<br />
Rowan <strong>University</strong>/<strong>Rutgers</strong>–<br />
Camden Board of Governors<br />
The new Rowan <strong>University</strong>/<strong>Rutgers</strong>–<br />
Camden Board of Governors provides<br />
joint oversight for any new<br />
health sciences programs <strong>to</strong> be created<br />
by either institution or by the<br />
two institutions collaboratively.<br />

Advisory Board<br />
The New Brunswick Advisory Board<br />
works with the New Brunswick<br />
chancellor in implementing the<br />
teaching, research, <strong>and</strong> service<br />

campus with its local community, its<br />
region, <strong>and</strong> the state; <strong>and</strong> supporting<br />
its commitment <strong>to</strong> academic<br />
excellence, access, <strong>and</strong> diversity.<br />
