1766: Chartered in 1766 as the all-male<br />
Queen’s College in New Brunswick.<br />
1825: Renamed <strong>Rutgers</strong><br />
College, honoring trustee<br />
<strong>and</strong> Revolutionary War<br />
veteran Colonel Henry<br />
<strong>Rutgers</strong>.<br />
1864: Prevailed over Prince<strong>to</strong>n<br />
<strong>to</strong> become New Jersey’s l<strong>and</strong>grant<br />
institution. From an early<br />
emphasis on agriculture <strong>and</strong><br />
the mechanical arts, <strong>to</strong>day the<br />
