Major Clinical Programs<br />

Although <strong>Rutgers</strong> has been engaged in clinical activities<br />

for many decades in such areas as autism, anxiety disorders,<br />

<strong>and</strong> HIV-prevention, the newly integrated clinical<br />

components of <strong>Rutgers</strong>—with their long his<strong>to</strong>ry of providing<br />

high-quality, comprehensive patient care—<br />

greatly exp<strong>and</strong> <strong>Rutgers</strong>’ clinical reach <strong>and</strong> ability <strong>to</strong><br />

conduct clinical trials. From the latest dental techniques<br />

<strong>to</strong> primary care providers <strong>to</strong> specialized treatment<br />

facilities, these entities are at the forefront of health<br />

care in our state <strong>and</strong> in the country. This section of the<br />

guide introduces you <strong>to</strong> some of the major clinical<br />

components that are important parts of <strong>Rutgers</strong>.<br />

Cancer Institute of New Jersey<br />

The Cancer Institute of New Jersey is<br />

the state’s only National Cancer<br />

Institute-designated Comprehensive<br />

Cancer Center, a coveted designation<br />

held by only 41 institutes nationwide<br />

<strong>and</strong> granted competitively <strong>to</strong> institutions<br />

characterized by scientific excellence<br />

<strong>and</strong> the ability <strong>to</strong> bring research<br />

discoveries <strong>to</strong> patients. The Cancer<br />

Institute of New Jersey delivers<br />

advanced comprehensive care for<br />

adults <strong>and</strong> children, including access <strong>to</strong><br />

clinical trials; conducts cutting-edge<br />

cancer research; transforms discoveries<br />

in<strong>to</strong> clinical practice; <strong>and</strong> provides<br />

education <strong>and</strong> outreach regarding<br />

cancer prevention, detection, <strong>and</strong> treatment.<br />

The Cardiovascular Institute of New<br />

Jersey at Robert Wood Johnson Medical<br />

School conducts research, education,<br />

multiple disciplines. The institute translates<br />

new knowledge of heart disease<br />
