TREATMENT SYSTEM
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is capacitive de-ionization?
It is the process of using positive and negative electrical charges
to isolate and remove calcium, magnesium and other TDS (total
dissolved solids) from the water supply. The unit is able to provide the
benefits of both a traditional softener and a reverse osmosis system,
by eliminating most of the hardness and TDS that they remove.
How is it different than a softener?
A softener uses Ion Exchange – where calcium and magnesium ions
are replaced by the sodium ions. This eliminates the hardness and
scale that the substances produce: however, it also adds sodium to
the discharge of the home and requires repeated salt purchases. The
Hybrid DI uses electrical charges to isolate and remove undesirable
material without the use of salt – and with a neutral discharge to the
environment.
Is this magnet technology?
This system does not use magnets. It uses positively and negatively charged electrodes to capture calcium,
magnesium and other solids from the water. Changes in water quality are consistent, significant and
measurable.
Does the unit re-circulate treated water?
No, this is a “single pass” system which sends treated water to an external storage tank. This ensures that,
as water is used that untreated water does not mix with de-ionized water. This unit will provide water with
consistent treatment and prevent variation due to mixing.
How does this unit compare to magnetic, electrolytic, electrostatic, template assisted crystallization,
depressurization, Far-infrared or other “new” technologies?
Pentair Hybrid DI technology can consistently and demonstrably remove hardness and TDS from
water. Measurements of the incoming and outgoing water will show empirical and repeatable results.
De-ionization is a proven technology and the hybrid has adapted this technology for residential and
commercial use.
What is the unit’s capacity? Does it come in different configurations or sizes?
The Hybrid DI will come in multiple sizes. The “cell” configuration can be adjusted to fit the specific need of
the home.
HYBRID DI TREATMENT SYSTEM

How much power / energy does it use?
The Hybrid DI, which constantly monitors water quality and has an intuitive touch-screen interface uses
about as much power as a desktop computer.
Does it require a pre-filter?
-Depending on the contents of the source water a pre-filter will likely be recommended. Typically a
standard carbon filter will be adequate to remove chlorine/chloramine, and sediment.
Does is work on well water?
Yes, the Hybrid DI will work well with well water. Depending on the contents of the water, a pre-filter may
be necessary.
Does it require service / maintenance?
The Hybrid DI will require an annual or semi-annual service by a trained professional. This will involve a descaling
with a citric acid bath and a replacement of filters and other wear parts.
How does it compare to a standard RO?
The Hybrid DI provides RO quality water by removing up to 85% of the TDS in water to every tap in the
house. Unlike RO, it is highly efficient and minimizes discharge.
How does treatment affect the PH of the water?
The Hybrid DI may reduce the PH of the water by up to ½ a point on the PH scale. Although the output
water may become slightly more acidic, it will not create “aggressive” which can be harmful to copper
piping.
What are the GPM for each cell configuration?
The Hybrid DI has 4 available cell configurations (6, 12, 18 and 24 Stack). The desired output flow rate will
determine which unit is appropriate for a given application. The anticipate maximum flow rate (with a 24
stack unit) is six gallons per minute of treated output water.
What is the anticipated life?
The service life of a unit will be determined by a number of factors including: flow rate, input water quality
and the care and upkeep of the unit. The Hybrid DI will be warranted for 5 years and we anticipate a
service life which significantly exceeds the warranty
