44 | P a g e Discipline Matrix Below is a listing of pupil behaviors that are subject to pupil discipline including suspension or expulsion pursuant to N.J.A.C. 18A:37- 2. The behaviors include, but are not limited to: Description First Offense Second Offense Third Offense 1) Profanity Directed at Staff Student referred to respective administrator. 1-3 days *out-of-school suspension. Student referred to respective administrator. 3-5 days *out-of-school suspension and parent notification. Student referred to respective administrator. 1- 10 days *out-of-school suspension, Principal’s hearing and Superintendent notified. 2) Use of Profanity Warning issued. Disciplinary Action Detention. e.g., Teacher detention and/or phone call home. 3) Student Insubordination Parent contacted. Conference with staff involved. Detention issued to student. Student referred to respective administrator. 1-3 days In-school suspension assigned. Student referred to respective administrator. 1-3 days Out-of-School suspension. 4) Fighting 1-10 days out-of-school suspension and possible police involvement. 1-10 days out-of-school suspension, Principal’s hearing and possible police involvement. 1-10 days out-of-school suspension, Principal’s hearing and possible police involvement. 5) Horseplay; Pushing, Running Tripping, etc. Disciplinary notice, administrative detention with parent notification. Detention or 1-3 days *Inschool suspension with parent conference. 1-5 days *out-of-school suspension with Principal hearing and parent conference. 6) Theft/Extortion, Fraud Forgery, Breaking and Entering 1-5 days out-of-school suspension, with parent conference. 5-10 days out-of-school suspension with Superintendent’s hearing and/or police notification. 5-10 days out-of-school suspension with Superintendent’s hearing and police notification. 7) Unethical Conduct: Cheating Plagiarism Administrative Detention, parent conference or In-school suspension and possible loss of credit. Detention and parent conference or out-of-school suspension and loss of credit for offense. 2-5 days out-of-school suspension, failure for the marking period and parent conference.

Refer to respective administrator for detention or 3-5 days out-of-school suspension, with monetary fines and police complaint. Refer to respective administrator for detention or 8-10 days out-of-school suspension, Superintendent’s hearing, monetary fines and formal police complaint. 9) Cutting Teacher Detention Reschedule detention, parent notification. Refer to respective administrator for 2 days, administrative detention and parent notification. 10) Cutting Administrative Detention In-School Suspension. 1 day out-of-school suspension and parent notification. 1-3 days out-of-school suspension and parent conference. 11.) Inappropriate Behavior at Detention 1 day In-school Suspension. 12.) Lateness to Class *Teacher records the tardy in Genesis and issues a verbal warning to the student with each incident of lateness. Teacher records the tardy and contacts parent. Student is referred to respective administrator. Issued 1-3 days Administrative Detention and parent conference. 13.) Cutting Class Student is referred to respective administrator. Teacher notifies parent and counselor. Loss of class credit. 1 day detention Student is referred to respective administrator. Assigned 2 days detention and parent notification. Loss of class credit. Student is referred to respective administrator, parent and counselor notified, deposition determined by administrator. 14.) Leaving Class Without Authorization Student is referred to respective administrator. 1-3 days detention and parent notification Student is referred to respective administrator. 1-3 days In-school suspension, parent conference and Principal’s hearing. Student is referred to respective administrator. 3-5 days out-of-school suspension, Principal’s hearing.
