As mentioned above, respondents were asked what would have happened to <strong>the</strong>ir RTD<br />

project if an ‘Integrated Project’ or a ‘Network <strong>of</strong> Excellence’ had not existed under <strong>the</strong> 6 th<br />

Framework Programme. Those who answered (very) unlikely to <strong>the</strong> question whe<strong>the</strong>r<br />

<strong>the</strong> project would have been submitted through o<strong>the</strong>r means, were asked why.<br />

No significant differences are noticed between successful and unsuccessful projects, nor<br />

between NoE and IP or by priority.<br />

Future <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> partnership<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r question asked to all participants, was <strong>the</strong>ir expectation as to <strong>the</strong> future <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

partnership.<br />

The different answers proposed were formulated as follows (answers are shortened in <strong>the</strong><br />

charts below):<br />

• The partnership will go on, independently <strong>of</strong> funding by <strong>the</strong> EU<br />

• The partnership, in its present form, will seek additional funding for additional<br />

tasks<br />

• The partnership will continue after <strong>the</strong> project, and might seek new sources <strong>of</strong><br />

funding<br />

• The partnership is likely to continue, but under a different form (with less<br />

partners, or with partially o<strong>the</strong>r partners)<br />

• The partnership has been created for this project and it is not sure it will continue<br />

after <strong>the</strong> project, or if <strong>the</strong> project funding is not secured<br />

• O<strong>the</strong>r<br />
