Mersea’s Paralympian From Hannah
OK, so the events of the past few days are
starting to sink in....
As a team, we are feeling incredibly numb, and
slightly dumbfounded about what happened. In
our minds we pulled ourselves back into a medal
position, and we did that ON THE WATERwhere
it really matters.
What matters now is that WE realise that WE
achieved our goal and even though we did not
get that piece of metal we had hoped for, its
about more than that and people who know
us will understand that it has been about the
journey...
There are too many people to thank individually,
but for starters, our Coach Mark Rushall, he
fought so hard for us, and the emotions were
tough to come to terms with, but he held us all
together, and he’s the reason that we made the
comeback, and we are strong as a team.
Our amazing support staff behind the scenes,
thanks for all the jokes and for keeping us
positive; Sparky, Dave, Alan, Libby, Tzaneen,
Lilly, Ben, Emily, Sasha, Craig and Peter.
Of course our sponsors; Nielsen, Learning and
Skills Solutions, Grainger, RAF Benevolent Fund,
BMW Cooper, Jon Wood, Harken, Marlow, Volvo,
Dave Atkinson, Richard Matthews and all the
others that have kept the programme running...
Our tuning crew over the past few years; Keith,
Simon, Rachael, Penny, Matt, Graeme, Hamish,
Dan, Tom, Richard, Will, James, Mark, Scotland,
Ian, Mary, Andrea, Guy, Andrew, Jonny, Meg and
all the others, you put the hours in, you are part
of our team, and we thank you for pushing us so
hard!
Also a massive thanks to our behind the scenes
people: Firstly, my Mum
(Tesco Mum of the Year!) for the endless phone
calls, the logistical
support, the sausage rolls and the sandwiches,
plus the constant fundraising, and being the
only person we know able to hold up Heathrow
airport, get the nose cone of an aircraft removed
in order to get a new mast halfway across the
world to the Team!!
Ruth (Steve’s girlfriend) for being the Team’s
biggest fan, having the T-shirts made and the
friends and family looked after, plus the always
smiling face!
Abby- Thanks for the cheesy sayings, the
inappropriate comments, turning up in the boat
park to help wash boats and running around
Weymouth in search of shackles, plus standing
on a street corner without fail everyday of the
Games to deliver the teams favourite sandwiches
and huge amounts of snacks!
Finally, Alex, Ian, James and Steve you know
what you did to get our boats ready for the
Games, and in the right place at the right time,
and we thank you for those late nights and
perhaps we owe you a few hours sleep! But trust
us when we say, the boats are beautiful and you
make that happen..
Finally to our friends and family, to everyone that
made the trip to
Weymouth and who spent hours at Castle
Cove cheering us on. All of the West Mersea
Community that sent personal messages of
support and a special thank you to Liz Harrisson
and Rachel Gozzett for the Mersea Wave
and picnic all of the West Mersea Yacht Club
members including the Bollingbroke family and
Sue Clifford for following our progress, you guys
we would be nowhere, and your support means
the world to us.
So I think this is the world’s longest update, but
all we really want to say is THANK YOU!
Please don’t be sad for us be happy that we are
still alive and breathing and will keep fi ghting ‘til
the end...
