Editorial
Children’s Day - a day dedicated to children
is observed as an event across the world to
celebrate childhood and promote awareness
about children’s welfare. Endorsed by global
organisations and governments, this celebration
aims to promote the well being of children and
to uplift their social rights. In 1954, the United
Nations with discretion has recognised
November 20 as Universal Children’s Day to
create attentiveness on the commitment on the
development of children and ensure a better
future. However, celebration date of Children’s
Day varies but in India it is observed every year
on November 14. India will celebrate Children’s
Day 2014 on Friday, November 14.
Numerous theories have been suggested
pertaining to Children’s Day celebration dates.
In 1925, the World Conference held in Geneva,
Switzerland, has recognised June 1 to observe
the International Children’s Day. But, in 1954
the United Nationals General Assembly has
approved November 20 as Universal Children’s
Day with the objective to promote the well being
of the children and celebrate childhood. The
UN has also recommended that the Day should
be devoted to promote its benediction.
Children’s Day coincides with the birthday of
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (November 14, 1889
- May 27, 1964), first Prime Minister of India
after Independence, and so is observed in a
grand way. This celebration commemorates
Jawaharlal Nehru for his affection towards
children and faith that education of children
could propel the country’s progress.
India celebrates Children’s Day with a range
of innovative and fun filled activities at schools
that seems much as a festival. Various
competitions, Children’s Day poems, dance
and feast is organised by schools and
community groups to mark the event and make
it a special day for children to enjoy childhood.
Additionally, the events and activities of
Children’s Day festival also focus to identify
the education, recreation, health, cultural,
economic and social needs of children.
For many parents, it is an important date and
they take initiative to celebrate Children’s Day
by giving gifts and spend the day with them
to make them feel special.
The enthusiasm of Children’s Day festival can
also be witnessed in the practice of exchanging
‘Happy Children’s Day’ wishes with the
collection of lovely SMS. To celebrate the
event, inspiring Children’s Day SMS or
messages are available in varied languages
that are just perfect to spread and share the
significance of the festivity so that children
deserve a better future and life.
Celebration of Children’s Day is all about to
save the future of the children.

Kasaragod Pallath Arvind born to Shri. T.
Bambunhi and Smt. K.P. Chirudmma on
16.11.1940 at Nellikunje , Kasaragod ,
Shri. Arvind is amongst 4 brothers & 4
sisters , though his parents were not educated
and poor. All children were educated
and are well placed in life. After
completing his diploma in Electrical Engineering
from Karnataka Polytechnic,
Mangalore. Came down to Mumbai in
1964 in search of job, entered State Govt.
Services in 1967 as Junior Engineer and
was in service for 32 years in various capacities
and retired in 1999 and is enjoying
his retired life with his family.
Shri. Arvind married Smt. Revathi in May
1969 and is blessed with 2 sons . The elder
one is a Mechanical Engineer settled
in Canada. The second son did his graduation
in Hotel Management and is Director
in Hyatt Services (India) Pvt. Ltd.,
Mumbai. Travelled to U.S.A, London,
Paris, Germany, Zekoklavaskia, Australia,
Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam,
China, etc. as job requirements.
Shri. Arvind and his wife are members of
the Samaj since 1970 and are the Grand
Patrons. He served Samaj in various capacities
and was an active member and
became the President in 1998 and was
holding the position continuously for five
consecutive terms upto 2008 and was the
first President to hold the chair for 10 long
years. During his tenure the Samaj expanded
in many ways and formed Regional
Centre like Western Region. Mahila
Vibhagh, Youth Wing and started its own
publication Thiya Jyothi. The fund raising
programme was taken up and made the
Samaj financially stronger, now he is one
of our Trustees.
Shri. Arvind completed his 74 years and
entering to 75 years on 16th November.
May Goddess Bhagavathi and Kulaguru
Shri. Narayana Guru bless him with long
life and good health.
