MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (SRC)
Congratulations to the students who will represent their classes on the Student
This year the group will fly both ways to maximise
many activities organised and we look forward to
hearing about all the experiences. Please keep the
group in your prayers!
CHANGES TO THE EDUATION MAINTENACE ALLOWANCE (EMA) 2013
The Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is provided to assist eligible
families with the cost associated to educate their children. New EMA payment
option: From 2013, on the EMA application form you can choose to have your EMA payment:
Paid by direct deposit (Electronic Funds Transfer) into your nominated bank account or
Paid by cheque which will be posted to the school for collection by you.
The introduction of the new payment option to have the EMA payment directed to the school provides parents
with extra flexibility to assist with budgeting towards education expenses.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the EMA in 2013, you must:
Be either a parent or guardian of a primary or secondary school student up to the age of sixteen; and
Leader: Have mercy, tender God
All: Wash away my sin,
cleanse me from my guilt
Leader: You love those centred in truth;
teach me your hidden wisdom.
All: Wash me with fresh water,
wash me bright as snow.
Leader: Creator, reshape my heart,
God, steady my spirit.
All: Do not cast me aside
stripped of your holy spirit.
Leader: Save me, bring back my joy,
and I will sing your goodness.
All: Lord, give me words
and I will shout your praise.
Leader: When I offer a sacrifice,
the gift does not please you.
All: So I offer my shattered spirit;
Student Wellbeing
NEWS
Student Well Being encompasses the following areas: Student Engagement, Student
Connectedness, Classroom Climates, Inclusion and Prevention to Intervention.
STUDENT REFERRAL GROUP
The Student Referral Group is a team within the school including the Individual Needs Coordinator, Student
Wellbeing Coordinator, School Counsellor and Deputy Principal or Principal. This group meets on a weekly
basis to monitor and review referrals made by class teachers or from an external agency.
The referral process is as follows:
The classroom teacher initiates referral.
This referral is presented to the Student Support Group by the coordinator for consultation.
The support group, parents, class teacher and other relevant professionals meet.
The support group devises strategies and sets goals.
The support group then sets up a review process.
Where necessary, a referral is made to the Catholic Education Office or to an outside agency.
YOU CAN DO IT (YCDI)
The "You Can Do It!" program aims to provide all students with the Foundations for Achievement. Through a
series of Program Achieve Lessons student are introduced to the skills that promote social and emotional
well-being in school, work, and the world of tomorrow. The core value of this program is to develop the potential
of all students (academically, intellectually, interpersonally and emotionally). It does this through instilling
in students an understanding of 5 important foundations - Confidence, Persistence, Organisation, Resilience
and Getting Along. Research indicates that these foundations determine the extent to which students
achieve, and experience, social and emotional well-being.
LEGO AND GIANT CHESS SET
The PA made the presentation of a giant chess set and
a second giant soft Lego set to the school at assembly
success with encouraging parallel and cooperative play
between the students and the little brothers and sisters.
The purchase of the chess set has been very timely,
with the start of the Wednesday Chess club. A big thank
-you goes to all who have supported fundraising for resources
for the children.
WELCOME DRINKS PARKING
There is an event at the church that will be concluding
as the Welcome drinks is commencing. There may be
some traffic congestion as the parishioners are leaving
the school grounds. We trust that the usual care and
patience will be shown.
VOLUNTEER SIGN UP SHEETS
The sign up sheets for PA activities and events were
sent out last week. We have had wonderful support
from school families in previous years. Involvement with
social and fundraising activities is a great way for new
members of the school community, in particular, to get
to know one another.
