VISUAL ARTS PRINTMAKING Use water based inks, a variety of low-tech printmaking techniques, and a printing press to create numerous individual pieces and printed editions. Students will learn the basics of relief, transfer, and stencil printing as well as stamping and painting techniques. Ages 7–10: Saturdays, 10:30–Noon; $240 INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING Learn to draw with a variety of tools such as pencil, charcoal, pastels and chalk to increase hand-eye coordination, while exploring new materials and approaches. Students will learn techniques of contour, shading and perspective to develop their own personal style. Ages 8–11: Saturdays, 3–4:30 pm; $295 ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN Learn the basics of architectural styles, structures and materials while developing skills in problem solving and design. Class activities will include neighborhood walking tours, site sketching, drawing, and creating collages and three dimensional models. Ages 11–14: Saturdays, 3–4:30 pm; $240 SATURDAY VISUAL ARTS ACADEMY An intensive program for adolescents, grades 5–9, who are committed to developing their drawing and painting skills and creating portfolios for special art high schools. Projects will include still life, figure drawing, portraits and landscapes along with abstract and imaginative work in charcoal, pencil, pastel, oil sticks, tempera and watercolor. Students are also introduced to the world of the fine arts and art careers through exposure to art history, visits to museums, galleries, art schools and artist’s and designer’s studios. It is recommended that students enroll for both fall and spring semesters. Ages 11–15: Saturdays, 10 am–2:30 pm; $300 ADULTS ADULT CERAMICS Create sculpture and functional pieces through hand building and glazing techniques with master clay artist Noël Copeland. Individualized instruction, all levels welcome. Fee includes clay and materials. Firing fees are additional and based on pieces. Wednesdays, 6–8:30 pm: $395 ADULT PAINTING & DRAWING Draw and paint with pencil, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic and oil to increase expertise and expression and explore new materials and techniques. Students identify their materials and interests and develop their own personal styles. All levels welcome. Students need to bring their materials. Tuesdays, 6:30–8:30 pm; $295 20

DELIGHTS AND IMAGININGS Sunday 28 October 2007 An Afternoon with the Touchstone Center to celebrate the publication of Catch My Moment: Art and Writing by Children On the Life of Play 12:30–2:45 pm Secret Wisdom, Magic Days A workshop and conversation, hosted by Richard Lewis, for teachers and parents on the many ways play and playing are the vital underpinnings of all childhood learning. 3–4:15 pm Performances The Touchstone Theater Ensemble: Play, Said the Earth to the Air Susan Share: Did You Ever Think A Book Could Dance, Your Thoughts Could Play? 4:30–5:30 pm I Catch My Moment A family workshop, facilitated by bookartist Susan Share, in which each participant makes an accordion book to remember and take note of the many magical moments of their play and playing. Using themes related to the exhibition, each participant will create artwork that explores their own imaginative expression.
