DANCE YOGA Hatha Yoga is a flexible combination of specific methods designed to develop every aspect of the individual: the physical, the emotional, the intellectual and the spiritual. Please bring your own mat and towel and wear comfortable clothing. Taught by working professionals in the musical theater field, students will be required to attend classes in all three genres; dance, vocal and theater which will concentrate on musical theater styles. Ages 13–18: Tuesdays, 6–7:30 pm & Wednesdays, 6–7:30 pm; $400 ABRONS ARTS CENTER DANCE ENSEMBLE The Abrons Arts Center Dance Ensemble (AACDE) is a company for advanced students who show a career interest in the dance field, as well as for those skilled recreational dancers looking for performance opportunities. Students become members of the AACDE by audition or by invitation from the Dance Director. All members of the AACDE must be a registered student in good standing in one or more dance classes and will be required to adhere to a schedule developed by the Director of Dance to suit each AACDE member’s instructional needs. There is no fee for membership in the AACDE. Ages 13–18: Fridays, 4:30–8:30 pm & Saturdays, 2:30–7:30 pm THE ABRONS ARTS CENTER JUNIOR DANCE ENSEMBLE The Abrons Arts Center Junior Dance Ensemble is a student company for young dancers who demonstrate talent and a serious interest in dance training. Students may become a member of the AAC Junior Dance Ensemble by invitation of the Co- Director Yvonne Gutierrez. All members of the AAC Junior Dance Ensemble must be a registered student in good standing in one or more dance classes and will be required to adhere to a schedule developed by the Co-Directors, to suit each Junior Ensemble member’s instructional needs. There is a $50 fee per semester for membership in the ensemble. MUSIC MUSIC Alison Jones, Director For over one hundred years, Henry Street Settlement has introduced and trained students in the joys of musical performance. Our Music Program’s exciting curriculum offers a wide range of musical styles, including classical, jazz, Latin, rock, folk, R&B, and hip hop. All students 7 to 17 years of age, enrolled in private or group classes are scheduled for free weekly theory classes. Theory classes teach the foundation and structure of music, note reading, rhythm, sight singing, pitch recognition, ear training and music history. Theory is a required class. Placement is by age, level, and ability. Theory is optional for students 5 and 6 years and 18 and up. Informal mini-recitals are held monthly. Students gather in small groups, perform and share their learning experiences with each other, discuss the pieces and the composers, and how feelings and thoughts are expressed in the works. These classes prepare students for recitals and concerts, and help students gain confidence in playing and singing. In addition, participation in student performances and attendance at Abrons Arts Center concerts scheduled throughout the year expose students to a wide variety of musical and performance styles. A meeting with the Music Director is suggested for all perspective students, regardless of age, so the best teacherstudent match can be made. Registered students may practice in designated studios free of charge during the school year. All classes listed are offered in both the fall and spring semesters unless noted differently. Each semester includes 16 classes, once a week (though semesters run longer than 16 weeks to accommodate holidays). Instrument Rental: Students may rent instruments from the Music School for a nominal fee, subject to availability. All students are required to pay a deposit.
