BLUESFEST SCHOOL OF MUSIC & ART BSOMA THE BLUESFEST SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND ART BRINGS INDUSTRY EXPERTISE TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH GROUP PROGRAMMING, PRIVATE LESSONS AND SPECIAL EVENTS, ALL OF WHICH ARE AVAILABLE TO ARTISTS AND MUSICIANS OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES. PRIVATE AND SEMI- PRIVATE LESSONS Private lessons provide the most impactful experience in music education. Our teachers are equipped to prepare students for both formal musical examinations, and casual play with friends and family. BSOMA offers private lessons in a variety of instruments and art mediums. They are offered year round and sign up is available at any time. Private lessons are $22.25 for 30 min. Semi-Private Lessons (2 or 3 students at the same time) are $17.25 for each student per 30 min. If you are interested in private or semiprivate instruction please don’t hesitate to contact privatelessons@bsoma.ca with inquiries. GROUP LESSONS LEARNING WITH OTHERS WILL ENHANCE YOUR MUSIC AND ART EXPERIENCE. CO-LEARNERS PUSH EACH OTHER TO LEARN WHILE MAKING CLASS MORE FUN AND ENGAGING. THESE CLASSES WILL HELP YOU ACHIEVE INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS IN A GROUP SETTING. Community Art (8+yrs) With guidance from one of BSOMA’s expert visual art instructors, participants will work together to create a permanent installation in the school. All ages and abilities are welcome to this free-to-participate community project. Registration is required. Tue 6:30-7:25pm, Sept 16 – Oct 28, 99023 - $0 Music Tech (13-17yrs) What goes into producing a successful live music show? Learn basic setup and operation of a sound system. From microphones to mixers, amplifiers to equalization, sound physics and mixing techniques, this course will introduce it all. Aside from skills gained from this course, participants will have advanced opportunities to access cooperative education placements. Tue 7-8pm, Sep 15 – Oct 27, 99026 - $99 Tue 7-8pm, Nov 3 – Dec 15, 99682 - $99 Preschool Music (1-4yrs) Join BSOMA instructors for an hour of music on Wednesday. Designed and delivered for your preschooler, this class will engage your youngster in making the sights and sounds that lead to smiles and laughter each day. Wed 9:30-10:30am, Sep 16 – Oct 28, 99029 - $99 Wed 9:30-10:30am, Nov 4 – Dec16, 99030 – $99 Life Drawing (16+yrs) This course will focus on the fundamentals of drawing the figure from observation. The instructor will lead participants through a series of exercises and assignments using a variety of media, exploring gesture, markmaking, line work, composition, negative and positive space, balance, light and shadow. Information will be shared on the history of the figure in art and the importance of seeing in order to convey. Wed 7-7:55pm, Sep 16 – Oct 28, 99024 – $99 Wed 7-7:55pm, Nov 4 – Dec 16, 99025 – $99 Musical Theatre (8-16yrs) Be a triple threat on the stage! In this class you will learn to sing, dance and act. While learning to perform, you will also learn how to audition. This course will end with a performance for friends and family on the BSOMA stage. Blues Harmonica (16+yrs) This harmonica course is built for the blues. Skills taught include bending notes, 12-bar blues, major and cross harp scales and more; all required for wailing. No experience necessary. Thu 7-8pm, Sep 17 – Oct 29, 99683 - $99 Thu 7-8pm, Nov 5 – Dec 17, 99684 – $99 DJ Club (13-17yrs) Join local DJs on Friday evenings for lessons and coached sessions. Participants will have the chance use BSOMA’s equipment to practice and develop their craft. Fri 6-8pm, Sep 18 – Oct 9, 99037 - $99 Fri 6-8pm, Nov 6 – Nov 27, 99038 – $99 Glee Club (10-16yrs) Glee Club leads future stars through vocals, choreography, stage presence and wardrobe. Songs will be selected by the group and mastered over the duration of the course. Glee Club always performs their songs for friends and family on the BSOMA stage at the end of each session. Sat 12-1pm, Sep 19 – Oct 31, 99021 – $99 Sat 12-1pm, Nov 7– Dec 19, 99022 – $99 Gold Club Ukulele (40+yrs) The ukulele is one of the best introductory instruments there is, it is physically easier to play than most other string instruments and is a good way to learn music theory. Participants will be taught chords, melody, strumming styles and even some rudimentary theory. Come strum, sing and learn in this quickly growing group! Tues 1:15-2:10pm, Sep 15 – Oct 28 99027 – $99 Tues 1:15-2:10pm, Nov 3 – Dec 15 99028 – $99 Kids Choir (6-9yrs) Kids will build confidence and comfort together, practicing and preparing for their show on the BSOMA stage. Students will be brought through the basics of how to sing and perform in a group. No experience necessary. Sat 11-11:50pm, Sep 19 – Oct 31, 99034 - $99 Sat 11-11:55pm, Nov 7 – Dec 19, 99035 – $99 GET SOCIAL FAMILY CLASSES FAMILY COURSES ARE A GREAT WAY FOR PARENT AND CHILD TO LEARN MUSIC AND ART TOGETHER. EACH COURSE IS INTENDED FOR BEGINNERS, BUT ALL LEVELS ARE WELCOME. EACH COURSE FEE OF $99 INCLUDES ONE ADULT AND ONE CHILD. AN ADDITIONAL FAMILY MEMBER CAN JOIN AT A REDUCED FEE OF $59. Family Guitar (8+yrs) As an introduction to the guitar, this course will teach parents and kids chords and strum patterns, plus how to read TAB and chord charts. Completion will provide a solid foundation for anyone who aspires to play guitar as a hobby or performer. The uke opens the door to the larger world of musical instruments in a fun way. Together the groups will learn chords, how to read chords, strum patterns, and then put it all together to play songs. Ukulele Club (8-14yrs) This club will get kids playing in a group regardless of musical experience. Everything from classic rock to top 40 hits will be played! Kids new to the instrument won’t be overwhelmed while more experienced ukers will be challenged.
