parents to honor Betsy Allen, a beloved<br />
member of the BB&N Lower School<br />

resources to train and educate Lower<br />
School teachers—particularly Morse<br />
Building (Beginner, Kindergarten, and<br />
Grade 1) teachers—on child development<br />
issues and other areas related to but<br />
outside of specific curricular topics.<br />

Promote Faculty Excellence<br />

School, this fund provides training and<br />

Garai Family Math Faculty Fund<br />
Established in 2006 by Gabor Garai and<br />

to enhance and enrich BB&N’s math<br />
program on all three campuses by providing<br />
support for professional development<br />
for math faculty, for external consultants<br />
related to the math program, and other<br />
general support for the interests and<br />
talents of the math faculty.<br />

The Hixon Family English Faculty<br />
Endowment Fund, established in 2007<br />
by Diana and Anthony Hixon P’07 and<br />
Augusta Hixon ’07, is intended to be<br />
used to provide support for professional<br />
development for Upper School English<br />
Department faculty.<br />
David L. Kasdon Fund<br />
Established by Mrs. Jenifer Kasdon<br />
P’91,’98 in memory of her husband, Dr.<br />
David L. Kasdon ’63, P’91, ’98, this fund<br />
supports Upper School faculty professional<br />
development.<br />
Helen Landess Fund<br />
Established in 1989 by Dr. and Mrs.<br />
J. Philip Kistler, Mr. and Mrs. David B.<br />

P’91, ’94 to honor Mrs. Helen Landess,<br />
a beloved teacher in the Lower School<br />
for 37 years, this fund supports Lower<br />
School faculty development with a focus<br />
on language arts. A portion of the income<br />
from this fund also supports the annual<br />
Landess Author Series for the Lower<br />
School community.<br />
Livingston Fund for Middle and<br />
Upper School Science<br />
Established in 1997, this fund is used<br />
to support professional development<br />
initiatives for Middle and Upper School<br />
Science faculty, with a preference for<br />
Upper School faculty.<br />
Sidney L. and Lester O. Simonds<br />
Faculty Development Fund<br />
This fund was established in 1986 by<br />
Marshall Simonds and Jonathan O.<br />
Simonds ’48 in honor of their fathers,<br />
Sidney L. Simonds ’10 and Lester O.<br />
Simonds ’13. The fund promotes faculty<br />
excellence by furthering professional<br />
development of faculty.<br />
Sixth Grade Fund for Lower<br />
School Faculty<br />
Established in 2006 by parents of<br />
the Class of 2012 and intended to be<br />
perpetuated by parents of future classes<br />
of sixth grade parents, this fund is to<br />
be used to enhance broadly the lives of<br />
Lower School faculty as well as the overall<br />
learning environment of the Lower School,<br />
and is to be allocated each year for<br />
special initiatives and endeavors that are<br />
particularly meaningful to Lower School<br />
faculty.<br />
Anne Elliott Smith Math Faculty<br />
Development Fund<br />
This fund honors the memory of a<br />
beloved and distinguished Middle School<br />
mathematics teacher, Anne Elliott Smith.<br />
The fund provides support for curriculum<br />
development in mathematics or related<br />
studies with a preference for faculty and<br />
programs at the Middle School.<br />
Elizabeth Thacher Stowe Teaching<br />
Fund<br />
This fund was established in 1974 in<br />
honor of Elizabeth Stowe, who served as<br />
Headmistress of the <strong>Buckingham</strong> School<br />
from 1963 until 1974 in recognition of<br />
her talents as a stimulating teacher and<br />
able administrator. The fund supports<br />
faculty professional development with<br />
special emphasis on projects designed<br />
to expand the interrelationship of the<br />
teacher and student in the teaching<br />
process.<br />
Marian Vaillant Fund<br />
Established in 1984 by Annette B. Cottrell<br />
Merle-Smith ’49 and her husband to<br />
honor the former headmistress of the<br />
<strong>Buckingham</strong> School, the Vaillant Fund<br />
supports faculty development through<br />
professional meetings, seminars, and<br />
workshops.<br />
Susanne B. Williams Fund for<br />
Social Studies Research<br />
Established by Mr. Manning A. Williams in<br />
honor of his wife Susanne Williams P’69,<br />
’71, ’74, a former second grade and social<br />
studies teacher in the Lower School, the<br />
Williams Fund supports programs that<br />
encourage an interdisciplinary approach<br />
to the Lower School social studies curriculum,<br />
as well as opportunities for Lower<br />
School faculty to study and travel with their<br />
families.<br />
FINANCIAL AID<br />
Financial aid endowment funds have been<br />
established over the years by alumni/ae,<br />
parents and friends of the School who are<br />
committed to making a BB&N education<br />
available to talented students regardless of<br />
their financial means. Financial aid endowment<br />
funds support either the general<br />
financial aid budget of the school, or the<br />
financial aid award to a specific type of<br />
student specified by the donor.<br />
BB&N Financial Aid Fund<br />
Income from BB&N’s general financial aid<br />
endowment supports the School’s annual<br />
financial aid budget.<br />
The Alpert Family Financial Aid<br />
Fund<br />
The Alpert Family Fund was established in<br />
2007 by Norman W. Alpert ’76 to support<br />
the general financial aid program of BB&N<br />
by providing funding for an inner city<br />
student, with a preference for an Upper<br />
School student.<br />
The Armida V. Beatrice<br />
Scholarship Fund<br />
This fund was established by G. Joseph<br />
Beatrice P’74 in memory of his wife. The<br />
fund provides financial assistance to an<br />
Upper School scholar-athlete.<br />
A. Ellis Benjamin Fund<br />
Established in 1951 by A. Ellis Benjamin<br />
P’46, ’50, ’53, this fund provides financial<br />
aid to an Upper School student.<br />
Robert F. Bradford Scholarship<br />
Fund<br />
This fund honors former Governor of the<br />
Commonwealth and former trustee Robert<br />
F. Bradford ’18, who set standards of<br />
distinguished public service in the fields of<br />
government and education.<br />
