BB&n endowment and spendable Funds<br />

The Upper School Critical<br />

Languages Program Fund<br />

Established in 2006 by an anonymous<br />

donor, this fund honors Upper School<br />

Language Department Chair Armen<br />

Dedekian, a distinguished member of the<br />

BB&N language faculty since 1971, who<br />

has played a crucial role in strengthening<br />

and expanding BB&N’s nationally known<br />

Russian language program. The Fund provides<br />

program support for the teaching of<br />

non-traditional and less commonly taught<br />

languages including the currently taught<br />

languages of Russian, Chinese, and Arabic,<br />

with a preference for program support for<br />

Russian.<br />

John H. “Doc” Walters Fund<br />

Established in 1999 in memory of longtime<br />

Upper School science teacher Doc<br />

Walters P’68, ’70, this fund supports the<br />

purchase of equipment, professional<br />

development for science faculty, and other<br />

ongoing expenses of the Upper School<br />

Science Department.<br />

BB&N SPENDABLE FUNDS<br />

The funds listed below provide spendable<br />

resources to support a variety of School<br />

priorities including financial aid, faculty<br />

compensation, and academic support<br />

initiatives.<br />

Eric Benke Drug and Alcohol<br />

Awareness Fund<br />

Established in 2005 by the Upper School<br />

Parents’ Association, this fund honors Eric<br />

Benke, Director of the BB&N Upper School<br />

from 2000 – 2005, and his work with and<br />

for Upper School students, particularly his<br />

efforts to ensure their safety regarding drug<br />

and alcohol use. The Benke Fund is used<br />

to support additional drug and alcohol<br />

programs developed under the direction of<br />

the Upper School Counselor.<br />

The Jenny Fiol Birch 1987<br />

Financial Aid Fund<br />

The Jenny Fiol Birch Fund was established<br />

in 2007 by alumni/ae and friends of the<br />

Class of 1987 in memory of Jenny Fiol<br />

Birch ’87. This spendable fund honors<br />

Jenny’s cherished experience in Italy during<br />

her Junior year and is intended to assist<br />

BB&N financial aid students’ expenses for<br />

the School’s study abroad program.<br />

New funds established in 2006-2007.<br />

Community Family Fund<br />

Established in 2001 by a group of BB&N<br />

parents in response to the events of<br />

September 11, 2001, this fund provides<br />

support to current BB&N families in<br />

immediate need of tuition assistance<br />

following the death of a parent.<br />

Bartlett M. Hauthaway<br />

Scholarship Fund<br />

Established in 2001 by Bartlett M.<br />

Hauthaway ’42, this fund provides a full<br />

scholarship annually for one or more<br />

Upper School students of good character<br />

who are strongly motivated, intellectually<br />

or artistically promising, able to cooperate,<br />

eager to lead or create, and who have<br />

a deep and abiding interest in nature.<br />

Inavale Foundation Financial Aid<br />

Fund<br />

This gift provides a full scholarship to a<br />

deserving Upper School student.<br />

The Kinasewich Senior Speakers<br />

Program Fund<br />

The Kinasewich Fund was initiated by<br />

Chris Mosca ’75 in 2007 to honor the<br />

memory of Gene Kinasewich who served<br />

as a member of the faculty, a coach, and<br />

class dean from 1973 to 1977. This<br />

spendable fund will support a guest<br />

speaker program for BB&N Seniors to<br />

help them address issues they face as<br />

they leave BB&N.<br />

Lower School Faculty Training<br />

Program Fund<br />

Established in 2003 by Ethel Marran<br />

GP’12, this fund supports BB&N’s efforts<br />

to recruit and train young teaching professionals<br />

who will increase the diversity of<br />

the Lower School faculty and direct the<br />

After School Study Skills Program at the<br />

Lower School.<br />

Past Parents’ Financial Aid Fund<br />

Established in 1999 by parents of BB&N<br />

graduates, this spendable fund provides<br />

financial aid for an Upper School student.<br />

highl ight<br />

Eva Belmont ’08 won two different musical<br />

contests: the Concord Orchestra Young Artist<br />

Competition and the Waltham Philharmonic’s<br />

Concerto Competition. Belmont performed the<br />

Saint-Saens Piano Concerto #2 in March with<br />

the Concord Orchestra, and performed the same<br />

concerto with the Waltham Philharmonic in May.<br />

The Porter Family Russian<br />

Program Fund<br />

The Porter Family Russian Program Fund<br />

was established in 2007 by Michael<br />

Porter P’06, ’07 in appreciation of the<br />

strong impact that the Russian program<br />

has had on students at BB&N and<br />

in honor of his daughter Sonia ’07’s<br />

experience in the program during her<br />

time at BB&N. This spendable fund<br />

provides income to support expenses of<br />

the Russian program not covered by the<br />

department’s operating budget such as<br />

costs associated with developing new<br />

programs or other expenses outside the<br />

normal classroom program.<br />

Al Rossiter Child Development<br />

Faculty Support Fund<br />

Established in 1999 in honor of Upper<br />

School faculty member W. Allen Rossiter,<br />

this fund supports the further understanding<br />

of child and adolescent development<br />

and mental health issues throughout the<br />

school community.<br />

Upper School Visiting Writers<br />

Fund<br />

The Upper School Visiting Writers Fund<br />

was established in 2002 by a group<br />

of Upper School parents to enhance<br />

the writing component of the Upper<br />

School English curriculum by inviting<br />

distinguished authors, poets, and other<br />

writers to BB&N to work with and give<br />

presentations for Upper School students<br />

and faculty.
