SONOMA VALLEY | WINE COUNTRY THIS WEEKSonoma Valley Museum of Art Juried Biennial ExhibitionThe Sonoma Valley Museum of Art (SVMA) h<strong>as</strong> rele<strong>as</strong>ed the namesof 48 Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Solano and Mendocino County artistswhose 59 original works will appear in the SVMA Biennial 2009 exhibitionfrom Saturday, September 5th through Sunday, November 29th.The exhibition will be the fourth juried biennial competition put onby the museum with content that covers a broad range of scale andmedia, including painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, mixedmedia and sculpture.Respected art experts Susan Cummins, Michael Schwager, andFrances McCormack selected 59 pieces for the exhibition from 300entries by regional artists. More than half of the selected artists arefrom Sonoma County, with eight from Sonoma Valley and theremaining from Marin, Solano and Mendocino counties.The SVMA Biennial 2009 exhibiting artists are from Sonoma; HughButtrum, Lori Goldman, Margaret Hatcher, Ryan Lely, Lin Lipetz,Tatiana McWethy, Richard Moquin, Melissa Parhm, Boyan Rodoslav,Boyes Hot Springs; Michael Acker, Petaluma; Dee Dushkes, JonGariepy, Connie Goldman, Eric Hunter, Lance Kuehne, ChristopherNewhard, Murray Rockowitz, Santa Rosa; Todd Barricklow, Alan Lant,Lin Max, Naomi Murakami, Sherry Parker, Deborah Salomon,William Smith, Stanley Sommer, Anneliese Vobis, Napa; PeterScaturro, Nancy Shapiro, Robert Wollard, Seb<strong>as</strong>topol; Alan Azhderian,Deborah Colotti, Bernadette Howard, Novato; Michelle Brown,Deborah Hamon, Kathy Knebel, St Helena; Lilea Duran, San Rafael;Sona Holman, Kentfield; Sharon P<strong>as</strong>ter, Mill Valley; Alice Corning, LaGarnish, Willits; Linda MacDonald, Benecia; Edward Brooks, Davis;Emma Luna, Fort Bragg; Sandy Oppenheimer, Greenbrae; StelaMandel, Forest Knolls; Holly Blake, Ukiah; Jacquie Lolich and fromVacaville: Susan De Haven.Museum members and exhibiting artists are invited to a specialpreview of the exhibition on Friday, September 4th, from 6:30 to 8p.m. At this event, the museum will present six prizes awarded by thejurors including: Best of Show, $1,500; Second Award, $750; ThirdAward, $300, and three honorable mentions.The SVMA Biennial 2009 competition w<strong>as</strong> open to all residents ofSonoma, Napa, Marin, Solano, and Mendocino counties. The judgingpanel evaluated slides of two-and three-dimensional artwork in allmedia. Art had to be original and completed within the l<strong>as</strong>t threeyears, and each artist could enter no more than two works. Activeboard members and museum staff were not eligible.During the exhibition, SVMA will be open to the public Wednesdaysthrough Sundays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission will be $5, freeto members and to everyone on Sundays.
