HomogenizersNAIL HOMOGENIZERThe Nail Homogenizer is a hand-heldattrition mill that easily pulverizes small nailsamples for more reliable dermatologicaltesting. When treated with 10% KOH, themicronized samples spread out rapidly andevenly beneath a cover slip, making studyeasier and more accurate. The homogeneoussample derived from using the NailHomogenizer increases the chances ofdiscovering fungal hyphae in a specimen.Additionally, using pulverized samplesincreases the possibility of culture isolationby permitting greater numbers of potentiallyviable fungal cells to come into direct contactwith the isolation medium.Pulverizing in the Nail Homogenizer is asimple task, and laboratory safety isimproved since no sharp-edged tools arerequired. The technician places a specimenin the mill cavity, presses the two mill halvestogether, and rotates the halves in oppositedirections several times.
