Snow Pond Center for the Arts - Summer Concert Series

Welcome!
It is with great joy that we welcome
you (or welcome you back) to our
79th summer at New England Music
Camp, and second year as Snow Pond
Center for the Arts on the shores of
beautiful Lake Messalonskee. The mission
for both of these programs is the
same: to provide a balanced and challenging
program of music education,
enhanced by excellent recreational
and social activities, to all deserving
young students. As we welcome over
300 young musicians from all over the world for our NEMC summer program, we also celebrate the 120
local children and adults who have shared the inaugural year of the Snow Pond Community Music School.
We have certainly started to “transform our community through arts education”, as so articulately put by
Douglas Lowry, the late Dean at Eastman College of Music.
As we continue to move forward with our goal of making music and the arts matter throughout central
Maine, our programs are expanding and reaching an increasing number of students and their families. Our
outreach efforts brought music to the students at Goodwill-Hinckley every week, where they have the opportunity
to take both group and private lessons in cello, flute, guitar and piano. Dozens of children enjoy
weekly music classes at the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville, the Augusta after school programs, and
Educare in Waterville. Every week at Snow Pond and in these community music programs, there are private
lessons, group classes, recitals, and other performance opportunities for 270 aspiring artists of all ages. It has
been a tremendously exciting year!
Our summer program at New England Music Camp has been designed to provide performances across
all genres of music and theater. In addition to our weekly free faculty and student recitals and weekend
concerts, there are four ticketed events that we are anticipating will be wonderful opportunities for everyone
to experience a world-class performance. Our first Bowl concert of the season, on June 28th, will bring
the Bangor Symphony to our site, where they will share the stage with NEMC alum, violist Evan Wilson,
formerly of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. As part of our Independence Day celebrations, we welcome five
outstanding Broadway performers to the Bowl stage on Sunday evening, July 5th, for Broadway Under the
Stars. Our annual Pops Concert will take place on July 18th at the Messalonskee Performing Arts Center
in Oakland, where our very own campers have the chance to share their special talents in this outstanding
setting. We will then welcome the Air Force Strings to the Bowl on Friday, July 31st, preceeded by a family
barbecue in our grove. Our season will end with two performances of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods
performed by the musical theater students of the NEMC program. Details about all of these programs, as

Our greatest joy at New England Music Camp and Snow Pond Center for the Arts is having the opportunity
to share the special talents of so many artists with our community. We hope you are able to join us
for many of these performances throughout the summer, here on the shores of Snow Pond. We have often
talked about a magic that happens here when music is reaching the hearts of so many, and we want to share
it with all of you. Please visit often, and take the time to introduce yourself to us. We are thrilled to welcome
