<strong>SOP</strong>s <strong>for</strong> <strong>Post</strong>entry <strong>Quarantine</strong> <strong>Inspection</strong>Section-8 Detection of Pests & Action Taken Page 1-3 of 3December 20078.1. Detection of Regulated Pests:8.1.1. The <strong>Inspection</strong> Authority/PQO (with PEQ responsibility) on detection of regulated pest will orderthe destruction of the affected consignment of plants/plant material and /or other regulatedarticles held under <strong>quarantine</strong>/grown under postentry <strong>quarantine</strong>, either whole or a part of plantpopulation, after taking into account the nature of the pest, level of infection/infestation and levelof containment of its spread/isolation/segregation..8.1.2. Where destruction of any plant population is ordered by the <strong>Inspection</strong> Authority/PQO (with PEQresponsibility), the importer shall destroy the same in the manner as may be directed by the<strong>Inspection</strong> Authority/PQO (with PEQ responsibility) and under his supervision.8.1.3. The inspection authority/PQO (with PEQ responsibility) will promptly notify the Dte of PPQS(NPPO) regarding the detection of regulated pest in the imported consignment and the actiontaken in the <strong>for</strong>mat prescribed in Annexure-8A8.2. Detection of Non-<strong>Quarantine</strong> Pests:8.2.1. If the pest detected is considered to be of non-<strong>quarantine</strong> pest, the inspection authority/PQO willadvise necessary plant protection measures to control the pest, be<strong>for</strong>e the same is permittedrelease to the importer or his agent.8.3. Detection of New Organism:8.3.1 If any new organism is detected, the inspection authority/PQO will determine the pest status o<strong>for</strong>ganism detected and proved to be potential phytosanitary threat, he will order immediatedestruction of affected population and promptly notify the Dte of PPQS (NPPO) <strong>for</strong> furthernecessary action in the <strong>for</strong>mat prescribed in Annexure-8A8.4. Issue of Release/Destruction Certificate:8.4.1. The inspection authority/PQO at the end of PEQ inspection will issue a release/destructioncertificate (Annexure-8B) to the importer or his agent under intimation to the concerned officerin-chargeof RPQS/NPQS at the designated port through, which the consignment was imported.44
