ISSUES IN RIGHTEOUSNESS 113ence is possible. Thus He gives men to the world, as theFather gave the Son, to exemplify in their life the life ofJesus Christ. Lift Him Up, 169.Christ bruised the head of Satan by His life of perfect obedience toHis Father. He also gives a fatal wound to Satan through the fully obedientlives of His saints:And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, andbetween thy seed and her seed: it shall bruise thy head, andthou shalt bruise his heel. Genesis 3:15.Christ was the special One who should bruise the head ofthe serpent; but the prophecy also includes all those whoshall overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb, and bythe word of their testimony. . . . Those who truly unite withChrist will be found doing the same work that Christ didwhile on the earth—they will be found magnifying the lawand making it honorable. . . .Whenever a soul takes a decidedstand for truth, the head of the serpent is bruised bythe seed of the woman. . . . When the advocates of truthreveal the efficiency of truth in their life and character, a blowis struck against the kingdom of Satan. Youth’s Instructor,October 11, 1894.The Vindication of GodThe honor of God—the vindication of His character—is involvedin the perfection of the characters of His people:Of the Spirit Jesus said, “He shall glorify Me.” The Saviourcame to glorify the Father by the demonstration of Hislove; so the Spirit was to glorify Christ by revealing His graceto the world. The very image of God is to be reproduced inhumanity. The honor of God, the honor of Christ, is involvedin the perfection of the character of His people. The Desireof Ages, 671.The obedience of His commandments by His people exalts Godbefore the world:
114 OUR GREATEST NEEDThe blessings of God’s covenant are mutual. . . . Godaccepts those who will work for His name’s glory, to makeHis name a praise in a world of apostasy and idolatry. Hewill be exalted by His commandment-keeping people thatHe may make them “high above all nations which he hathmade, in praise, and in name, and in honour.” Deuteronomy26:19. Manuscript Releases, vol. 1, 118.One of the major issues of the great controversy is Satan’s claimthat God’s laws—a reflection of His character—cannot be obeyed orreflected in the lives of His creatures—specifically the sons and daughtersof fallen Adam. Satan’s claims will be proved to the whole universeto be totally false as God’s remnant people reflect God’s characterand His laws in their own Christlike characters:Christ came to the world to counteract Satan’s falsehoodthat God had made a law which men could not keep. Takinghumanity upon Himself, He came to this earth, and by a lifeof obedience showed that God has not made a law that mancannot keep. He showed that it is possible for man perfectlyto obey the law. Those who accept Christ as their Saviour, becoming partakers of His divine nature, are enabled to followHis example, living in obedience to every precept of thelaw. Through the merits of Christ, man is to show by his obediencethat he could be trusted in heaven, that he would notrebel. The Faith I Live By, 114.The fact that the law is holy, just, and good is to be testifiedbefore all nations, tongues, and peoples, to worlds unfallen, toangels, seraphim, and cherubim. The principles of the law ofGod were wrought out in the character of Jesus Christ, and hewho cooperates with Christ, becoming a partaker of the divinenature, will develop the divine character, and become an illustrationof the divine law. Christ in the heart will bring the whole man, soul, body, and spirit into captivity to the obedience of righteousness.Christ’s true followers will be in conformity to themind and will and character of God, and the far-reaching principlesof the law will be demonstrated in humanity.
