PURPOSES OF THE SANCTUARY 75In the same way and in the same sense that they abide/dwell inChrist, they dwell in the temple. Just as Jesus and His people are one,so the sanctuary and God’s people are one. This truth was plainlytaught by the type. When the saints were defiled, the sanctuary wasdefiled at the same time:And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Again, thoushalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of thechildren of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel,that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be putto death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones.And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him offfrom among his people; because he hath given of his seedunto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane myholy name. Leviticus 20:1–3.Wherefore, as I live, saith the LORD God; Surely, becausethou hast defiled my sanctuary with all thy detestable things,and with all thine abominations, therefore will I also diminishthee; neither shall mine eye spare, neither will I have any pity.Ezekiel. 5:11.Whosoever toucheth the dead body of any man that isdead, and purifieth not himself, defileth the tabernacle of theLORD; and that soul shall be cut off from Israel: because thewater of separation was not sprinkled upon him, he shall beunclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him. . . .
