Camp Courageous was honored to have
Phythian Grand Chancellor, Ron Ingles take
on Camp Courageous as his state wide
project this past year and the next year.
Above was the emcee for Ron's convention,
long time member, Ralph & Lorraine Barger.
A big thank you to Jeff Bertsch, Senior
Vice President of Flexsteel in Dubuque, for
providing Camp Courageous a complete set
of couches, recliners, and much more for all
three camper cabins at Camp Courageous.
An incredible donation that has lit-up the
campers and staff alike. The Flexsteel
business began with Jeff's Great Grandfather,
Frank Bertsch, who immigrated to the US in
1881 with 50 cents in his pocket. He had
been an upholstery apprentice in Germany.
It is truly an American success story and that
hard work and dedication continues on today.
I had the good fortunate of going to school
with Jeff from about K-12 and my cousin,
Tom Becker, has been a long time employee
of Flexsteel on the west coast. So when the
staff mentioned at a staff meeting, that the
furniture in the camper cabins were beyond
repair, I knew just the two folks to contact.
Thank you Flexsteel for bringing so much
joy to camp and we all wish you continued
success!
Above, Dillion Williams, Executive Director of
Systems Unlimited welcomes all to Systems
40th Anniversary. Forty years ago, a handful
of parents of children with disabilities came
together because they were unhappy with
the lack of options available to their families.
This was the beginning of Systems Unlimited.
Like so many others, this group was dynamic
and wow did they accomplish a lot. We all
remain grateful. The agency now serves
over 1,000 children, adults and families in
forty-five cities and towns throughout Eastern
Iowa. Congratulations Systems on all your
success.
Thank you to camp's great friends at
Eilertson's of Fond Du Lac, WI, who also
have a branch here in Monticello. As can be
seen above, they have a piece of equipment
that will lift a log, cut it square, and then
into slices. They are providing the camp
the thousands of railroad ties it will take to
expand the railroad to Lake Todd. Super
company and staff!
The Bi-State Volkswagen Club held their 16th
Annual Picnic in the Park with all proceeds
going to support Camp Courageous! Over
$1,000 was raised, along with the donation to
camp of bread and other needed items. Just
a super group to be affiliated with!
Camper Brett Zuck (center, red vest) was one
of dozens of folks who participated in the first
annual Wapsi Float for Camp Courageous.
(Jake Richards, Brett Zuck, and Drew Kiler
paddle down the Wapsipinicon River)
The canoeists as they approached the Iron
Bridge near Rowley. Special thank you to
Andy Crump and the entire committee that
made this such a huge success!
Dear Camp Staff:
I had the best time ever at Camp this
year! I loved sleeping under the stars,
riding the super zip and seeing all my
camp friends. See you next year.
-Brett Zuck
When nursing talks about a lot of medications
going through camp, here are just three
boxes in Saturday’s mail full of medications.
We encourage campers to have their
medications to camp in advance of their stay
to allow for proper preparation and to speedup
the check-in process.
