Pebble count excel sheet.9.3 POST-TRIP CALIBRATIONSCalibrate pH, dissolved oxygen and conductivity when you return to the office. Values shouldagree with the precalibration results within the following limits.Parameter Acceptable RangepHPost-trip reading should be within 0.3 standard units of the pre-trip readings foreach buffer solution used. Hydrolab instrument specifications specify aninstrument tolerance of +/- 0.2 SU, and additional 0.1 SU is permitted for minorenvironmental differences (temperature, etc.).Conductivity EC readings shall be within 10% of pre-trip post-calibration values.Dissolved Dissolved oxygen saturation values will be evaluated site by site according toOxygen calibration performance in the field. Readings will be evaluated after sitecalibration by stabilization time (should be within 2 minutes) and adherence to afull 100% calibration for YSI. STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES FOR SURFACE WATER QUALITY SAMPLINGIf the field meter post trip checks are out of the ranges identified below, the following steps mustbe done:What to do if the calibration value is outside the "Acceptable Range".1. If the post-trip check results in readings that deviated outside of the acceptable range, thedata will not be acceptable for assessment or compliance purposes and should be excludedor discarded from the dataset. Be sure to make a note in the field notes that such data wasrejected.3. Determine when, if possible, any problems occurred in the field. If this can bedetermined, the readings taken before the problem occurred may be acceptable. Anyvalues obtained after the problem occurred should be discarded.4. If the problem resulted in large differences between meter readings and stated solutionvalues, try to isolate the problem and correct it as outlined in the Pre-Trip EquipmentCalibration Procedures. If the problem cannot be corrected satisfactorily, tag the meter forrepair.9.4 ROUTINE MAINTENANCEMaintenance of active multiprobes should be conducted every quarter. Equipment that is notbeing regularly used should be maintained every six months. This section covers both YSI andHydrolab multiprobes. The maintenance is the same for both units unless otherwise noted.Record what maintenance was performed, the date, who performed the maintenanceand any problems encountered in the equipment log book.9.4.1 MULTIPROBE CALIBRATION9.4.1.1 Hydrolab Maintenance9.4.1.1.1 Specific Electrical Conductivity1. Prepare the unit by attaching the cable andtransmitter. On older sonde units and on someolder minisondes, the EC probe consists of a set ofnickel electrodes covered by a hard plasticconductivity cell block. When working with thistype of probe, first remove the conductivity cellblock with a screwdriver and then remove therubber o-rings from the electrodes.2. Newer units will probably be equipped with a fourelectrode graphite conductivity sensor (FIGURE9.3). This type of sensor should never be cleanedwith abrasive material of any type. When cleaningthe electrodes, use cotton and a solvent such asmethanol or isopropyl alcohol to remove anyresidue that may present. The sensor can also becleaned using warm soapy water.
