November 7th, 2005 was the date of the Alumni Association of Conestoga’s 15th Annual General Meeting. The event was held in the Guild Room at the Doon Campus, and was attended by over 50 people. The out-going President, Brett Tucker welcomed the guests and Conestoga President, Dr. John Tibbits was the key-note speaker. He outlined his vision of the future for Conestoga, and thanked the Alumni Association for all of their 28 Connections - winter 2006 Alumni News and Views Alumni Association of Conestoga Celebrates 15th Anniversary l-r Linda Taylor, Alycia Tedford, Monica Himmelman & Mike Shipley Sponsorship of Conestoga alumni soccer teams for the Annual In-Door Soccer Tournament, hosted each year by Conestoga Athletics, and organized by Alumnus Marlene Ford Sponsorship of both the Classic Golf Tournament, and the 1st Annual Alumni Varsity Golf Tournament. Organizing events such as the SWAK (Sealed with Alumni Kisses) Day Carnation Sales (Feb. 14th each year), and the Alumni Annual Skating Party. Supporting Conestoga’s Annual Fund and creating an Alumni Association Entrance Scholarship. support over the past 15 years. There were several past-presidents in attendance and Dr. Tibbits recognized their leadership contribution. Mike Shipley, Treasurer presented the Annual Financial Report which was approved by the voting members in attendance, and Norm Bertrand, Past- President presented the Nominating Committee’s report and the Slate of Officers for the coming year. Darren Desmarais, Consultant with Johnson Inc. presented the Annual Affinity Partnership report and gave an up-date on the current trends and products available in the home and automobile insurance industry. He then presented the Association with the largest affinity-partnership cheque in the Association’s history--$25,481.90. The last item on the agenda was the presentation of the Welcome Home Awards. This year there were 13 Alumni Association Gives Back Sponsoring six awards for graduating students from various program areas, and sponsoring the Conestoga team in the Ontario College Marketing Competition. Purchasing 50 signs which are used at various Conestoga events such as Tech@Work and on-campus Job Fairs. Purchasing a life-size mannequin, known as Randy, for use in the Police Foundations, Pre- Service Firefighters, and Law and Security Administration Programs. The purchase of a designated printer for the Registrar’s Office to produce official records and documents (cost-shared with CSI). recipients of this award which has been presented annually for the past three years. Brett and Mike presented each eligible, first-year student with a cheque for $250 and a gift for their parent. Monica Himmelman, Alumni Services and Annual Fund Officer, presented Brett Tucker, with a gift of appreciation from Conestoga, recognizing Brett’s significant contributions to the Association and to Conestoga. After the adjournment of the formal part of the meeting the Board members and guests enjoyed a social time with refreshments and a powerpoint presentation which highlighted the activities of the Association over the past year. Special thanks to Anne Charles, Faculty Representative to the Board, and Margie Williams Alumni and Annual Fund Assistant, for creating this wonderful presentation. Over the past year the Alumni Association of Conestoga has invested in Conestoga and the community in the following ways: Promotional items such as pens and magnets, cards and letterhead, used to promote and raise the profile of the Association and Conestoga College Board Development: Strategic Planning Day, attendance at provincial conferences, (CCA. and Opening Doors) and Volunteer Recognition Evening. Donations to the Kelly Family- Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, and Student Services emergency fund. Sponsoring the Alumni Association of Conestoga’s Welcome Home Award.
Conestoga Needs Long- Term, Stable Funding In order to continue to provide the quality education and equip our graduating students with the skills that they need, Tim Kingsbury, 1982 Business Administration—Materials and Operational Management graduate, and 2005 Alumnus of Distinction Award Recipient invites you to join him in pledging financial support to Conestoga. It was a great day of golf and fun times with 40 golfers hitting the links. Over $1000 was raised at this inaugural event. Additionally, we'd like to extend a thank you to everyone who helped with the tournament, we couldn't have done it without you!
