CSI invites all Conestoga alumni to share their involvement in various student associations at Conestoga College. CSI would also appreciate if you can help with filling in the missing spaces of the past executive from the student association. Over the past few months, Conestoga Students Inc. (CSI) has been researching its past-executive members dating all the way back to it’s beginning as the Doon Student Association (DSA). To date, CSI has been able to discover its past Presidents and past Vice-Presidents dating back to the mid-1970s. CSI 30 Connections - winter 2006 Alumni News and Views Conestoga Students Inc. (CSI) Looking to the Past by Jonathan Wolfe 0has also discovered its first president Neil Aitchison and its first vice-president Andrew Dysart in 1968. To get to where we are today, CSI had to dig deep into the archives, looking at past issues of the “Spoke” newspaper dating back to the 1970s and reading through the past agreements with the college along with past DSA/CSI corporate documents, with dust included. Along with researching the DSA past executive, CSI has come across its past with the Waterloo Student Association, Guelph Student CSI Executive Year of Term President Vice-President(s) Association and the Stratford Nurses Association. CSI is looking to take all information collected and build historical archives. By building the archives, CSI plans to learn more about the past, while the organization looks ahead to the future. CSI will construct a wall plaque to commemorate the efforts of past student leaders. Tracy and Sean Jasmins, fellow graduates and close friends of Mike and Suzanne Kelly sent us the following messages: September 9th 2005 “Mike and Suzanne (Malette) Kelly (Broadcasting, Radio and Television Program grads in 1991 and 1992 respectively), have been living out their dreams in Biloxi Mississippi for the past five years. Suzanne, who grew up in Kitchener, is the News Director and morning Radio Newscaster for Triad Broadcasting in Biloxi, and Mike, who originally hails from Seaforth, is the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations and the “Voice” of the Mississippi Seawolves (East Coast Hockey League). Thankfully they are all safe, but their lives have been forever changed by this devastating event.” November 1st, 2005 We last spoke to Mike and Suzanne a couple of weeks ago. Here is their message. “Dear Friends, We want to thank you for your support and prayers. It’s been a touchy few weeks since Hurricane Katrina hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast area on August 29th. After fleeing to safety for 12 days to friends in Pensacola Florida, we returned to Biloxi.The water is contaminated, but it’s a liveable situation.We have been unable to locate some of our friends in the area that stayed during the storm. More than 5,000 structures in Biloxi alone were demolished.The area looks like a war zone with military helicopters and trucks helping in the search and recovery.We are counting our blessings. The Mississippi Sea Wolves hockey team suspended operations for this upcoming season. Mike has accepted an offer to remain with the team to work in the community and help in the healing process. He’ll be back on the air calling games in October 2006. Suzanne was hired back as the morning news anchor and director despite considerable damage to the radio station” (they are currently broadcasting from makeshift studios in a trailer).
