(1) Every one who…(j) lives wholly or in part on the avails ofprostitution of another person,is guilty of an indictable offence and liable toimprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years.213(1) Every person who in a public place or in anyplace open to public view…(c) stops or attempts to stop any person orin any manner communicates or attemptsto communicate with any person for thepurpose of engaging in prostitution or ofobtaining the sexual services of a prostituteis guilty of an offence punishable on summaryconviction.[14] The Criminal Code provides definitions for some of the words in theseprovisions in s. 197(1):“common bawdy-house” means a place that is(a) kept or occupied, or(b) resorted to by one or more personsfor the purpose of prostitution or the practice of acts ofindecency;“prostitute” means a person of either sex who engagesin prostitution;“public place” includes any place to which the publichave access as of right or by invitation, express orimplied.
