If knock or detonation occurs, the IST system adjusts timing until it stopsand then stores the information. In effect, the system "learns" the ignition requirements of a particularengine and creates a fully custom ignition map for it. Highway mile markers are usually accurate enoughto use for calibration, although the test should be repeated betweenseveral different markers for confirmation. The S&S speedometercalibrator can then be adjusted to increase or decrease the speed andmileage indicated by the speedometer.
