Therefore, rebalancing the flywheels is recommendedwhen S&S connecting rods are used in stock replacement applications. We realize that rebalancing is an inconvenience, but we did not want to sacrifice rod strength forconvenience’s sake. In addition, given the variations in stock and aftermarket components available to engine builders, flywheel rebalancing is a desirable step in any majorengine overhaul.All S&S mainshafts for Harley-Davidson® Sportster® models are designed for use in flywheels with tapered mainshaft holes. 1986-later stock flywheels have mainshaftswhich are manufactured as an integral part of the flywheel.S&S pinion shafts for 1986-’03 Sportster models are the splined 1986-'87 style.
