Back-to-School <strong>2012</strong>Learning Today ~ Leading Tomorrow5Invitation To Attend Grades K-4 and 5-8 Open HousesFamilies of students in grades Kindergarten through 8 are cordiallyinvited to attend Open Houses.Arrowhead Primary, Fort Island Primary, Herberich Primary,and <strong>Copley</strong>-<strong>Fairlawn</strong> Middle School buildings will hold theiropen houses before school begins. You are invited to come toschool for the following open houses: Kindergarten is Monday,August 20 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; grade 5 is Tuesday,August 21 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.; grades 1-4 is Wednesday,August 22 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and grades 6-8 is August22 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. No group meetings will beconvened.This is a time for parents, children, and grandparents to visitthe schools. Many times the “first-day jitters” and anxietiesof children can be allayed by affording them the opportunityto meet their new teachers in a friendly atmosphere withtheir families. The non-threatening nature of the open housecombined with children observing and participating in positive,friendly, family discussions with their new teachers can put theminds of children at ease and pay rich dividends in giving thema “first-class” start.Since we are opening the buildings for this special occasion, wekindly request that the buildings not be entered prior to 3:00p.m. for grades 1-4. As can be imagined, the teachers will bevery busy getting their rooms and papers ready. They simplycannot be involved in discussions and conversations that wouldSchool Lunch NewsLunch Prices for the <strong>2012</strong>-<strong>2013</strong> School Year:Grades K-4: $2.75 Grades 5-12: $3.00Extra Milk: $.50A la carte items will be offered at all school buildings.Prices will vary.Opening Day Menu: All <strong>Schools</strong>: Cheese and Pepperoni pizzaMethods of Payment:Free or reduced-price lunch program: A free or reducedpricelunch program is available for all eligible students. Pleasecontact the building principal to apply for this confidentialprogram. (Note: Participation in the free and reduced-priceprogram helps the district with funding for other areas of ourcurriculum. This program is available all school year.)Our food service department now operates under acomputerized point of sale system which allows parents/guardians to deposit money into their student’s account. All ofthe students have been assigned an ID number which they willkeep from kindergarten through 12th grade. Parents/guardiansare encouraged to prepay for their student’s lunch with adetract from their full preparation for open house. Thank youfor understanding and for your cooperation. We want the eventto be successful as well as beneficial to all. Please feel free to callyour individual school building prior to the open house or firstday of school if you have questions.For grades K-4, your attendance is also important for a secondreason. We will be sending home with you the opening-daypacket of information and forms (including the EmergencyInformation Form). The opening-day packet contains valuableinformation for you and your child. In order that we can bebetter prepared to meet the needs of your child, we request thatthe forms be completed and returned on the first day of school,Thursday, August 23. Thank you in advance for your assistancewith this!The cafeteria staff will be available to answer your questions andaccept payments for pre-paid meals and free and reduced-lunchapplications.Booths will be available in the gymnasiums for our servicegroups to share information with you. Groups participatinginclude the following: PTA, Scouts, local athletics, and others.Plan to take the time to investigate your areas of interest.The teachers and staff look forward to seeing you at the OpenHouses. Come anytime between the times listed.check, cash or over the internet using the Pay For It link on the<strong>District</strong>’s website. Pay For It is available 24/7 to put money on astudent’s account. Students still have the option of purchasingtheir lunch on a daily basis with cash. No change will be givenit will be put on the student’s account. All money left on theaccount at the end of the year stays with the student and willtransfer to the next grade and school year. There will be NOCHARGES in the school cafeterias. You might want to putmoney on the student’s account for days when they might forgettheir lunch or lunch money. Please do not combine lunchmoney on the same check or money order for fees. It wouldalso help us if you put your student’s name on the checkThe Food Service Department serves over 200,000 meals to<strong>Copley</strong>-<strong>Fairlawn</strong> students. Food service is a self operatingbusiness within the school system that should take in enoughmoney to cover all its costs, including labor and benefits.Some students rely on the school lunch program to meetmany of their daily food needs. Meals are planned accordingto recommended daily allowances. A student’s participationin the school lunch program is the guideline used by both thestate and federal government to determine reimbursement andcommodity food distribution.www.copley-fairlawn.org
