Which became less marked on 4 th <strong>August</strong>.• Last month’s cyclonic circulation over south Orissa and north coastal Andhra Pradesh lay over thenorthwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal during 1 st – 3 rd <strong>August</strong>. It alsobecame less marked on 4 th <strong>August</strong>.• The other last month’s cyclonic circulation over west Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood lay over eastUttar Pradesh and neighbourhood on 1 st <strong>August</strong> and became less marked on 2 nd <strong>August</strong>.• Last months western disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and adjoiningJammu & Kashmir moved away northeastwards across Jammu & Kashmir on 3 rd <strong>August</strong>.• A cyclonic circulation lay over southeast Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood during 4 th to 6 th and oversoutheast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining north Madhya Pradesh on 7 th <strong>August</strong>. Under its influence, a lowpressure area formed over northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood on 8 . It lay over west MadhyaPradesh and adjoining east Rajasthan on 9 th and over southwest Rajasthan and neighbourhood on 10 th .Associated upper air cyclonic circulation tilted southwestwards with height.• A cyclonic circulation extending up to mid tropospheric levels lay over Gangetic West Bengal andadjoining Bangla Desh on 7 th , Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood on 8 th and over Jharkhand andneighbourhood on 9 th & 10 th <strong>August</strong>. It merged with the cyclonic circulation associated with the lowpressure area over Gangetic West Bengal on 11 th <strong>August</strong>.• A western disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation lay over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu& Kashmir on 4 th & 5 th and moved away northeastwards across Jammu & Kashmir on 10 th <strong>August</strong>.• An induced cyclonic circulation lay over Punjab and adjoining north Pakistan on 8 th , over Punjab andadjoining northwest Rajasthan on 9 th and became less marked on 10 th <strong>August</strong>.• A cyclonic circulation lay over Assam & Meghalaya and neighbourhood on 17 th <strong>August</strong>. It became lessmarked on 18 th <strong>August</strong>.• A western disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation lay over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu &Kashmir during 13 th to 15 th ; Jammu & Kashmir and neighbourhood on 16 th and over the eastern parts ofJammu & Kashmir on 17 th <strong>August</strong>. Which moved away northeastwards on 18 th <strong>August</strong>.• A cyclonic circulation lay over the northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood on 18 th , it lay over northChattisgarh and neighbourhood on 19 th , southeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Vidarbha on 20 th ;southwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood on 21 st , southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat Regionon 22 nd ; northwest Rajasthan and neighbourhood on 23 rd and merged with the cyclonic circulation in thewesterly field over Punjab and adjoining west Rajasthan on 24 th . It tilted southwestwards with heightduring 19 th to 22 nd <strong>August</strong>.• Another cyclonic circulation tilting southwards with height lay over Orissa and neighbourhood on 24 th<strong>August</strong>. It lay over north Chattisgarh and adjoining east Madhya Pradesh, tilting southwestwards withheight on 25 th and merged with the monsoon trough on 26 th <strong>August</strong>• A cyclonic circulation lay over Punjab and adjoining northwest Rajasthan on 24 th <strong>August</strong>. It lay overwest Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood on 25 th and became less marked on 26 th <strong>August</strong>.• A fresh western disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation lay over north Pakistan andneighbourhood on 23 rd and over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir on 24 th <strong>August</strong>. It layover Jammu & Kashmir and neighbourhood on 25 th and moved away northeastwards on 27 th <strong>August</strong>.• A cyclonic circulation lay over the northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood on 25 th & 26 th , overOrissa and adjoining Chattisgarh on 27 th & 28 th and over west Madhya Pradesh and adjoining northMaharashtra on 29 th . It tilted southwestwards with height on most of the days. Under its influence, a lowpressure area formed over the northeast Arabian Sea off north Gujarat coast on 30 th <strong>August</strong>. Prepare the land and undertake sowing totransplanting of kharif vegetables like bhindi, bean, tomato, French bean, cauliflower, cabbage etc.‣ In South Eastern Plateau Zone of Jharkhand, farmers are advised to undertake sowing of maize, arhar, greengram, black gram, groundnut. Also complete sowing of arhar as sole crop as well as intercrop with any ofthe crops like jowar, maize, groundnut, soybean, urd, moong bean and okra.‣ Undertake sowing of maize, arhar, vegetables like okra, bitter gourd, cluster bean, cow pea, ridge gourd,lady’s finger, brinjal, tomato and chillies and transplanting of rice in Orissa utilizing monsoon rain. Alsoundertake sowing of ragi and sesame as the weather is optimum for sowing of these crops.‣ Farmers in West Bengal are advised to undertake sowing of maize, early tomato and cauliflower,transplanting of aman rice and start cultivation of mushroom. Drain out excess water from already plantedginger and turmeric field in Terai Zone.‣ In New Alluvial Zone of West Bengal, if aman rice seeds are not yet sown, sow short duration varietiesutilizing the realized rainfall.‣ Farmers in Bihar are advised to undertake sowing of kharif maize, kharif fodder crops (jowar, Dinanathgrass and bajra), mishrikand, onion and transplanting of fruit trees.‣ Farmers in the districts of North West Alluvial Plain Zone of Bihar are advised to give top priority intransplanting of rice seedlings in low and medium land areas where water for transplanting is available inthe field.‣ Farmers in South Bihar Alluvial Zone are advised to undertake transplanting of vegetables crops like


injal, tomato, chilli and cauliflower on ridges, if seedlings are ready. Farmers are also advised to startsowing of rainy season cucurbits on ridges. This is time for late sowing of arhar, sesame and also fortransplanting of fruit trees. As sowing time of long and medium duration varieties of rice in the nursery isalmost over, short duration varieties of rice should be sown in the nursery as soon as possible.‣ Suitable varieties of the crops for sowing or transplanting are mentioned in Annexure II.‣ In some patches of Western Plateau Zone of Jharkhand, vegetables are attacked by hairy caterpillars; sprayDichlorvos @ 5 ml per 10 litres of water and mix Tipol in the solution and avoid the stagnation of water nearthe root zone of the crop. Weather is conducive for the attack of stem borers in turmeric and ginger; sprayRogor @ 1 ml per liter of water and also remove affected parts.‣ White ant attack has been found in groundnut in Keonjhar district of North Central Plateau Zone (low rainfall areas) of Orissa. Carry out soil drenching thoroughly with 2 ml Chloropyriphos per litre of water.‣ The current weather is favourable for infestation of fruit and shoot borer in brinjal in Khurda, Keonjhar andPuri districts of Orissa; install Pheromone traps and spray 4 g Sevin WP or 2 ml Malathion in 1 litre water.‣ Due to high humidity in Coastal Saline Zone of West Bengal, symptoms of Collectotrichum piperis (localname chitla) disease appeared on the leaf blade of betel vine. To prevent it Bordeaux mixture (4:4:50) @0.5% or any Copper Oxychloride preparation @ 0.3-0.4% should be sprayed at 15 days interval. Drain outexcess water as soon as possible.‣ In some areas of New Alluvial Zone of West Bengal, infestation of gandhi bug is reported in aus rice.Apply Malathion or Dichlorovos @ 1 ml per litre of water, if the infestation is more. In jute grown for seedand late sown crops, attack of Bihar hairy caterpillar and semi-looper may be prevalent. For both insects,apply 1.5 ml Endosulphan per litre of water.‣ In this weather condition, in New Alluvial Zone of West Bengal, combined attack of downy mildew andmosaic may be seen in bitter gourd and pointed gourd; apply Redomil –MZ @ 2 g per litre of water.‣ In this weather condition in Terai Zone of West Bengal, if die back appears in chilli, spray the crop withPropiconazole @ 1 ml to litre of water or Blitox 4 g to litre of water. In this weather condition Phytophthoramay be a problem in betel vine; spray Mancozeb 64% + Matalaxyl 8% @ 1.5 g to litre of water.‣ Undertake plant protection measures after current spells of rain.‣ Stages of major crops are mentioned in Annexure I.Animal Husbandry‣ During this monsoon season there is a chance of black-quarter in Coastal Saline Zone of West Bengal; keepthe cattle clean and if this disease occur, promptly give penicillin and tetracycline and inoculate into the siteof lesion. If the seedlings are already ready,farmers are advised to undertake preparation of main field and transplanting of rice.‣ In Mid Tropical Hill Zone in Nagaland are advised to complete sowing of groundnut, soyabean, pulsesand prepare nurseries for rice crop.‣ Suitable varieties of the crops for sowing or transplanting are mentioned in Annexure II.‣ Present situation of alternate drying and wetting condition may favour the occurrence of rotting of leavesand stems of beetle vine and quick wilt of black pepper in Central Brahamaputra zone in Assam.Prophylactic application of Bordeaux mixture may prevent the spread to outbreak of the diseases.‣ There is chance of occurrence of blast disease in sali rice in Barak Valley Zone in Assam; farmers areadvised to apply Bavistin @ 1 g to litre or Hinosan @ 1 ml to litre of water.‣ In Hill Zone of Assam, there is chance of infestation of rice hispa where the crops are at tillering stage;farmers are advised to monitor the crop and spray Quinolphos @ 2 teaspoonful to 5 litres of water tocontrol the attack.‣ In Mizoram, there is chance of infestation of pests on rice due to substantial increase in minimumtemperature and evening humidity and an appreciable decrease in sunshine hours with occasional rainfall;farmers are advised to monitor the crop and undertake appropriate plant protection measures. Also, due toprevailing weather conditions, there is chance of incidence of gummosis on Khasi Mandarin; farmers areadvised to scrap the diseased portion and apply Bordeaux paste. Adopt prompt measures to drain outexcess rain water from the orchard.‣ Due to hot and humid conditions and high wind speed, there is also chance of sigatoka leaf spot onbanana in Mizoram; farmers are advised to apply mancozeb @ 0.01%. There is also chance of attack ofmaize borer on maize crop; farmers are advised to uproot the borer affected plants and burry them andspray the crops with 80 ml Decis 2.8 EC in 60 litres of water per acre.‣ In Mild Tropical Plain Zone of Tripura, due to the prevailing humid weather, there is chance of attack ofgundhi bug in upland rice; farmers are advised to spray Imidachloprid @ 1.5 ml per liter of water.‣ In Manipur, there is chance of blast, bacterial leaf blight, sheath blight, leaf folder and stem rot on rice.Farmers are advised to spray Tricyclazole 75WP @ 0.6 g to litre water or Ediphenphos 50 EC @ 1 ml tolitre water or Propiconazole 25 EC @ 1 ml to litre water or Carbendazim 50 WP @ 1 g to litre water forblast, spray with 250 ppm of Agrimycin100 for bacterial leaf blight, Validamycin @ 2 ml to litre of waterfor sheath blight, Cartap granules 4G @ 15 kg to ha or Cartap spray @ 600 ml to litre of water for leaffloder and Validamycin 3 L @ 2.5 ml to litre or Thiophanate methyl 75 WP @ 1 g to litre of water forstem rot. There is a chance of attack of powdery mildew in lemon; farmers are advised to spray Bayleton@ 7 g to 15 litres of water.‣ In Ri-Bhoi, East Khasi and West Khasi hill districts of Meghalaya, there is chance of occurrence of blastin rice; farmers are advised to spray Carbendazim @ 1-1.5 g to litre of water. There is chance of wilt in


anana; farmers are advised to drench the field with 1-2 % Boreaux mixture.‣ In Nagaland, due to high moisture in the soil, there is chance of stem rot in papaya; farmers are advised tospray Copper oxychloride @ 3 g to litre of water. Farmers are also advised to spray Carbendazim @ 1-1.5 g to litre of water on rice crop against rice blast.‣ Apply plant protection measures after current spells of rain.‣ Stages of major crops are mentioned in Annexure I.Animal Husbandry:‣ Immunizations against Brucellosis, FMD, HS, BQ and Anthrax diseases in cattle and buffaloes and swinefever in pigs may be carried out in Lower and Central Bramhaputra Valley Zone in Assam. It is alsoadvised to vaccinate (RDF1) against Ranikhet disease in one week old chicks and against Gamboro diseasein two weeks old chicks.‣ In Tripura, poultry farmers are advised to protect the birds from Coccidiosis disease. Litter should be keptdry and hygienic, clean water and balanced diet with sufficient minerals should be provided to the birds.The infected birds may be kept in isolation. Medicine like Coximer etc. @ 0.5 g per liter of water may begiven for one week to manage the attack. Clean the poultry shed periodically with phenyl solution.‣ In Mizoram, vaccinate and deworm the pigs from swine fever and internal parasite. Avoid dampness toprevent from coccidiosis in poultry. Also advised to look the deficiency of Zinc incrop and accordingly spray a mixture @ of 5 g zinc sulphate and 20 g Urea dissolved in one liter ofwater.‣ In Delhi undertaken transplanting of rice, sowing to transplanting of onion, cluster bean, radish, spinach,amaranthus, brinjal, tomato, chilli and early cauliflower. Farmers are advised to prepare marigold nurseryin net house. Also, undertaken transplanting of mango, citrus and guava to establish new orchard.‣ In Himachal Pradesh are continued direct sowing of rice, sowing of kulthi, hybrid chari, direct sowing ofkhira bitter gourd, sowing of ginger, arbi and amaranthus, cauliflower, cabbage, toria, and planting ofmango, litchi and guava etc. In the remaining districts are advised to continued sowing of kharif crops assufficient rainfall was received. Also, not to allow stagnation of water in vegetable crops. In mid hills,harvest the apple.‣ Continued sowing of raddish and cauliflower in Rajasthan. Try to keep their litter dry.‣ In Himachal Pradesh, Weather is conducive for spread of FMD and galghotu so, farmers are advised forvaccination of animals against FMD.SOUTH INDIA [TN, AP, KERALA, KARNATAKA, LAKSHADWEEP, ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS]• Kuruvai rice (tillering to flowering), cotton (flowering to boll formation), vegetables (nursery to transplanting tofruiting), sugarcane (vegetative to grand growth to maturity), groundnut (vegetative to pod development),maize (vegetative to harvest), sorghum (vegetative to flowering), black gram (flowering to harvest), greengram (flowering to harvest) in Tamil Nadu.• Sugarcane (ratooning to vegetative), cotton (sowing to vegetative), hybrid jowar, maize, ragi, sugarcane,sunflower, groundnut, red gram and horticulture crops (vegetative) in Karnataka. To drain out excess water from groundnut field.‣ In the South Zone of Tamil Nadu are postponed irrigation and protect the crops from heavy winds, as moderate rainfall isexpected during the coming days.‣ Moderate to rather heavy amount of rainfall has been received at many places in the North Dry Zone of Karnatakaduring the previous week. As light to moderate amount of rainfall is expected at few places during the coming five days,sowing of maize, desi cotton, horse gram, setaria, sunflower, cowpea, onion, chilli may be continued and take up plantprotection measures in horticultural crops carefully.‣ Since wide spread rainfall was received in the North East Dry Zone of Karnataka, all the kharif crops likebajra, pigeonpea, niger, castor, groundnut and cotton sowing should be done at the earliest, wherever theconditions are congenial.
