36 CONSOLIDATED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, MANAGEMENT REPORTsonalization. In combination with the newly developedportable data capture system ID MOBILE, Mühlbauer thusoffers its customers the utmost in flexibility, both in the capturingof biometric data, for example, and in the personalizationof the ID document.Mühlbauer does not only offer hardware systems but alsothe entire range of software processes for the completeproduction chain in the ID area. The software of the webbaseddata enrollment system getID, was adapted for thedecentralized ID MOBILE solution and together with thecorresponding hardware it enables optimum data captureand processing in accordance with ICAO requirements. Inaddition, ID management systems such as MühlbauergetID DEOS (Data Enrollment Online Server) andMühlbauer SDM (Security Document Management), whichenable and control matching and synchronization withlinked databases, underwent further development. In connectionwith the improved production management systemMühlbauer INCAPE, which serves as a central interfaceto the backend systems, the processing of data andprocesses can be rendered easy. The Mühlbauer Group has also succeeded in positioningitself as the worldwide leading provider of complete solutionsin the area of Smart Label production lines. Ourrange of TAL machines for high-throughput Flip Chip assemblywas extended by TAL 20000, thus increasing theachievable machine throughput by almost 100%. At thelower end of the price range, we once again extended ourportfolio of machines on the basis of our Flip Chip Mountertechnology. Apart from production systems for the manufactureof inlays, systems for the production of labels areoffered to our customers now. Due to the development ofthe Converting Line CL 15000, which converts the inlayfeaturing electronic functions to the actual self-adhesive label,Mühlbauer is the only equipment manufacturer in theworld capable of offering a complete solution – from thechip to the ready converted label. Our “Smart Label factory”has thus become a “one-stop shop” for our customersand their specific requirements.Semiconductor Related Products. With our newly developedhigh-volume Die Sorter generation, we provide customersin the semiconductor backend area with even moreefficient and productive systems, the processing speed, quality and service-friendliness of which do more thanmerely meet the market’s demands. The focus was alsoon efficiency and precision in the further development ofour Carrier Tape systems. Both the single- and the multitracksystems of the CT 8/24 series experienced furthermodernization and improvement, were issued a morecompact form and completed their development as seriesproducedmachines. In the Image Processing area, the complex print controlsystem PI-Sheet was realized, a system that combines theutmost in inspection precision and process stability. SIF2500, a machine for the verification, measurement andsorting of coins and similar products, underwent consistentfurther development and has finally been completedso that it can be produced in series.Traceability. The requirements towards systems for thereading or marking of highly complex electronic componentsare constantly rising. The focus is on efficiency andflexibility. In addition, the trend towards special customizedsystems on the basis of standard components is rising. InTraceability, Mühlbauer reacted towards these requirementswith several new developments and adjustments oflaser marking lines as well as labeling stations, thusachieving optimized process times and process security. The product portfolio in this area is completed by the developmentof new automatic incoming goods scannersthat record markings.ProcurementThe focus of the 2006 financial year was on the continuedvolatility of steel and aluminum prices. In so doing, the“Buy centrally, procure decentrally” process, successfullypracticed by Mühlbauer for many years, once againproved its worth. Thanks to the centralized purchasingplatform, volume bundling was pushed ahead further, thuscreating an even better market position over providers, guaranteeing continual procurement at all times and coveringthe demand for raw materials at very good conditions. In parallel, the internationalization of purchasing waspressed ahead with. The objective here is the utilizationof external potential for innovation and the jointachievement of a significant contribution towards extendingMühlbauer’s technological lead, without losing our independence. In 2006, a key focus of purchasing activities was on the optimizationand electronification of purchasing processes. The implementation of a document management systemfor the electronic processing and archiving of purchasingThe percentages were determined on the basis of the exact figures and may differ from the rounding figures
CONSOLIDATED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, MANAGEMENT REPORT37documents, which was commenced in 2005, was consolidatedand extended to cover further processes in the 2006financial year, in order to increase purchasing’s efficiencyand productivity. Additional focuses were on the scheduledintroduction of a partnership model in the area of nonproductionrelated materials, in which the emphasis is onthe optimization of business processes and the reductionof the number of variants and suppliers. Mühlbauer expectsthe independent management by a select consortiumof suppliers and the outsourcing of related logisticsresponsibilities to result in considerably simpler processingand a lower capital commitment. Our close cooperation and partnership with suppliers, based on a win-win relationship, our modern procurementmanagement as well as long-term delivery schedules andvolume bundling provide us with a wide range of tools thatenable us to ensure on-schedule delivery, even in difficultsituations – such as on international commodities markets– and to relativize the impact of rising prices on our productionmaterials.EMPLOYMENTIt is our claim, within global economy, to be a strong companythat participates in designing the future.
