FM EXCITER 177<strong>The</strong> distortion inthe frequency-modulated output of the exciter isof the order of 0.5 per cent for modulating frequencies from 30 cyclesto 15,000 cycles. <strong>The</strong> noise level in the output is 74 decibels below 100-per-cent modulation.A schematic diagram of the new exciter unit is shown in Figure 12Figure 13 is a front view of the new exciter unit with the major componentsand controls identified. Figure 14 is a rear view of the exciterunit.Fig. 14In summary, the principal advantages of this new exciter unit are:(1) Its relative simplicity of circuit design.(2) Use of a minimum number of tubes.(3) Accurate frequency control.(4) Reliability of operation.(5) Excellent performance characteristics.(6) Ease of maintenance and service.
