CHATEAU PECH LATT (100% CERTIFIED ORGANIC) LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON, FRANCE The first vines at Chateau Peach-Latt, planted by the monks from the Lagrasse Abbey that was founded by Charlemagne, can be traced back to 784 A.D. Today, Chateau Pech-Latt is a 325 hectare estate, of which 100 acres are planted with vines. The winery is proud to rank among the pioneers in organic farming, a choice which stems from their aim to preserve a well balanced and sound environment. The vineyard is sparsely fertilized, and if so, only with organic products. Pesticides, weed killers and other synthetic fertilizers are banned. Thus, Pech-Latt enables wine lovers to maintain a healthy way of life and discover, on site in Lagrasse, an ideal natural environment, isolated and spared from pollution. As of the 12th century, the Abbey of Fontfroide was taken over by the monks of the Cistercian Order, highly skilled winegrowers who undertook to restore the art of the vine in the Corbieres once started by the Phoenicians and furthered by the Romans. So began the history of the domaine known as Caraguilhes. The famous chateau that one sees today was constructed in the early 17th century. The vines still grow in an ideal location known for its exceptional soil quality, with s mixture of clay and limestone. In 1935, the winery’s new owner became the only grower to refuse to use insecticides and weed killers or chemical fertilizers—well ahead of his time. Inspired by the same precision and philosophy, the same love of the soil and of authenticity, current owner Laurent Max continues this practice.
