For custom applications that rely on the chronologicalaspect of when data was entered, NetSuite suggests using the Date Modified orDate Created fields, as they are guaranteed to be chronological. Additionally, fortransactions with auto-generated numbers, the sequence number (for example,“tranid”) is guaranteed to be sequential based on the date transactions wereentered. Record internalIds should never be used in the same way that DateModified, Date Created, or tranid fields are used to determine when data wasentered.The term reference or ref is used to define a reference to any existing record (record type/IDcombination) in the system. References are implemented through the RecordRef type, which isdefined in the following XSD:https://webservices.netsuite.com/xsd/platform/v2011_2_0/core.xsdThe RecordRef type is described by three attributes — the internal ID, external ID, and thetype:Important: When referencing records, you must provide the internalId or the externalIdattribute for all update operations, but not both in the same operation.
