Page | 136Office AdministrationThe Office Administration Program incorporates the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to succeed in thebusiness world. Topics cover time management, human relations, filing procedures, telephone and listening techniques,oral and written business communications. Computer skills include word processing and spreadsheets, database,presentation and telecommunication applications.The program offers Associate of Applied Science degrees in Medical Office Administration and AdministrativeAssistant. All options have an exit point for less comprehensive programs. Students also may earn a Certificate ofCompletion in Administrative Assistant, Medical Office Assistant and/or Receptionist. A program also provides inserviceeducation for office professionals who want to update or improve current skills. A wide variety of jobs areavailable to graduates, including human resource assistant, administrative assistant, information technology assistant,office coordinator and executive assistant. Specialties include medical office specialist. These jobs have been listed for thelast several years as high-demand occupations for Southeast Texas. The general education core will transfer to a varietyof colleges and universities. Students may have earned some college credit in high school through articulation. OfficeAdministration is a Tech Prep program that allows high school Tech Prep students to enter the program and receive upto 15 semester hours of credit.Second Associate DegreeWhen another associate degree is taken simultaneously or was taken previously, the second associate degree may begranted upon the completion of all required work for the second degree. In addition, the student must complete sufficientapproved courses to total 15 semester hours above the number required for the degree having the greater semester hoursrequirement.
