Page | 53Student ServicesStudent Services are administered by the Vice President for Student Services who, as the college’s chief studentpersonnel administrator, reports to the President. The primary responsibilities are to provide services and programsthat enhance the general education and development of students, enrich the quality of student life and support theteaching, and service mission of the College.The Vice President for Student Services provides primary leadership in formulating and administering policies andprocedures regarding student life and to the rights and responsibilities that accompany student citizenship in the collegecommunity.Among the services administered by the Office of the Vice President for Student Services includes AdmissionAdvisement, Admission and Records, Financial Aid, Public Information, Recruitment, Registration, Security andStudent Activities/Organizations.Advising Services – General & ScholarshipsThe Admission Advising Office is on the third floor of the Student Center. Advisors assist students in their admissionto the College and in questions of residency and registration for the Texas Higher Education Assessment examination(THEA). Advisors also counsel students concerning dropping courses and withdrawing from school. They also help withthe selection of courses, completion of schedules and registering for class.Scholarship information is coordinated by the advisors. Students interested in applying for scholarships shouldcontact the advising office for application forms for local and institutional scholarships. The College reserves the right torequire tests of any student if it appears that scores would be helpful in making the admission decision or would bebeneficial for advising purposes.In addition to services provided through the centralized Advising Office, for additional program and course levelassistance student should contact their individual Department Chairs for the appropriate faculty mentor in their majorfield of study.BookstoreFor the convenience of faculty and students, Barnes & Noble operates a bookstore where supplies and books, new andused, may be purchased or upon availability, a variety of rental books are provided for some courses. Used books whichcurrently are approved may be sold to the bookstore. Books which must be discontinued are not purchased by thebookstore except at wholesale price. The bookstore reserves the right to require a seller to prove ownership of books.Campus SecurityCommunity Service officers help protect students and visitors and their property as well as the college’s. They alsoprovide escort service to vehicles upon request and maintain parking lot surveillance. Further, as notification, theCollege utilizes video and other forms of surveillance to aid in a more secure and safe operation. The campus also relieson the Port Arthur Police Department when in need.All on-campus emergencies should be reported to the Security Office by dialing 0.
