GmbH located in Neuenburg and Fronau
is responsible for developing, manufacturing
and marketing innovative
anti-sensor systems, i.e. active and
passive countermeasures for ground,
air and naval forces in the multispectral,
infrared and radar spectrums, together
with the accompanying training
and exercise systems. The company’s
products fall into five categories: naval
countermeasure, army countermeasure,
area countermeasure, ground,
aircraft countermeasure, and training
and exercise systems.
★ Rheinmetall DeTec AG has held a
major stake in Eurometaal N.V. (located
in Zaandam in the
Netherlands) since
1996. The company
makes medium and
large caliber ammunition
and ammunition
components. As a metal-processor,Eurometaal
enjoys a leading
position in the market
thanks to its superbly
engineered products.
Above all in the fields
of forming, machining,
heat treatment and
surface finishing the
company has made an
international name for
itself among civil and
military customers alike. Its array of
products includes ammunition for artillery,
tanks, howitzers and mortars, ranging
in size from 12.7 mm to 150 mm,
as well as hand grenades. Eurometaal
also produces special ammunition for
air force and naval use. Its main customers
are the European members of NA-
TO. Eurometaal also owns two companies
active in civil sectors, Heidel (automotive
engineering) and Intergas
(burners). The government of the
Netherlands owns one-third of Eurometaal
Holding N.V.
★ GIWS Gesellschaft für Intelligente
Wirksysteme mbH is a joint venture of
Diehl Stiftung & Co. and Rheinmetall De-
Tec AG, each of which holds a 50% share
in the company. GIWS is tasked with

Medium Caliber:
★ In the medium caliber sector, Oerlikon
Contraves develops and manufactures
20mm to 35mm automatic guns,
as well as ammunition for its own systems
(and those of other companies),
ranging in caliber from 12.7 mm to 50

Technology made by Henschel-Wehrtechnik: an air defence system of the
type Roland on a Marder chassis.

Oerlikon Contraves Pyrotec AG makes
ammunition for anti-aircraft systems
and vehicle-mounted guns. Its
product range extends from conventional
full-caliber and practice ammunition
right through to the company’s
highly advanced Ahead ammunition,
featuring a programmable fuse. Another
speciality: its 25 mm and 30 mm
sub-caliber Pfeil and Frangible rounds
designed for vehicle-mounted armament,
and fireable with a full spin. The
company’s standard caliber 25mm
ammunition is now in service with no
fewer than nine NATO nations.
In addition, the firing ranges and
testing areas at the company’s own

test center are well equipped with
technical measurement systems, enabling
sophisticated testing and trials
of ammunition, weapons and complete
systems.
★ Mauser-Werke Oberndorf Waffensysteme
GmbH, located at Oberndorf, is
another Rheinmetall DeTec center of
excellence in the field of medium caliber
weapons systems and ammunition
for land, air and naval applications.
Mauser-Werke is a world leader in the
development, manufacture and distribution
of medium caliber barrel weapons,
weapons systems and the accompanying
families of ammunition.
The company produces automatic
guns and accompanying ammunition,
systems for close-range defence,
aircraft weapons, training and exercise
systems, ammunition
testing equipment, as
well as naval weaponry.

Unterlüß GmbH (Unterlüß)
carries out research

jointly owned by Rheinmetall DeTec
AG, the German State of Lower Saxony
and a large number of medium-sized
companies. TZN offers a wide range of

laser and systems engineering, with
its activities encompassing every phase
of development from feasibility studies,
computer simulations, systems
analysis and design evaluation, right
through to the building of prototypes
and pilot plants and the performance
of project-specific measurement campaigns.
