Intersection ImprovementsIn addition to providing a system with logicalconnections from starting points to destinations,intersections, conflict points, <strong>and</strong> transitions are alsocritical to a successful, safe travelway. <strong>Greenways</strong>sometimes intersect roads where there are nocrossing facilities. Safe mid-block crossing treatmentsor signage routing users to the nearest intersection arenecessary. These intersections are also critical points.Safety measures include pedestrian countdownsignals, high visibility crosswalks, curb ramps,pedestrian refuge isl<strong>and</strong>s, <strong>and</strong> parallel connections.Community input suggest fourteen key intersectionsin need <strong>of</strong> safety analysis <strong>and</strong> planning.These intersections should be considered prioritiesfor the <strong>Town</strong>’s improvement plans. Complete feasibility studies <strong>and</strong> designdevelopment for the top priority greenwaysystem connections:A. American Tobacco Trail to downtown <strong>Apex</strong> viathe Beaver Creek Greenway;i. Jaycee Park to Downtown (1500 l.f.)ii. Kelly Road Park to <strong>Apex</strong> Nature Park (1.2miles)iii. <strong>Apex</strong> Nature Park to the American TobaccoTrail (2.3 miles)B. Connect downtown to <strong>Apex</strong> Community parkeither byi. Old Raleigh Road Multiuse Sidepathlinking downtown, town hall, commercialscenters, the Eva Perry Regional Library,<strong>and</strong> community park orii. by making Shepherds Vineyard a publicgreenway;C. Complete the Middle Creek GreenwayConnection from existing neighborhoods alonghighway 55 to the Holly Springs Greenwaynetwork to ensure connectivity under the future540;D. Work in partnership with the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> Cary tocomplete the White Oak Creek Greenway;E. <strong>Apex</strong> Barbecue Road Multi-use Path from <strong>Apex</strong>Nature Park to Salem Street downtown;F. Bond Park Connector Greenway.2. Complete separately, or in conjunction, abicycle master plan <strong>and</strong> pedestrian master planto provide an interconnected system <strong>of</strong> facilities(including routes, bike lanes, shared use lanes,bicycle parking facilities, sidewalks, intersectiontreatments, <strong>and</strong> signalization) <strong>and</strong> prioritizeimplementation.
