Push-Pull ControlsFAA-PMA Approved®Solid Metal ConstructionOur fittings and components are madefrom anodized aluminum, stainlesssteel, and brass. All critical swageconnections are metal for continueddependability. Our vernier lockingdevices are precision formed and heattreated in critical wear areas. Precisesurface finishes provide a smoothconsistant feel and long service life.A Superior Conduit SystemThe McFarlane conduit is made fromplated carbon steel wire that has beenformed to a “D” shape for increasedstrength and to give a smooth insidediameter. A virgin Teflon® liner hasbeen inserted into the center of the coilfor low friction and high temperatureoperation. Two different configurationsare used to provide good tensilestrength. The coil is either over-braidedwith stainless steel wire, or a doublewoundcoil is used. Both configurationsprovide a solid feel under heavypush loads without sacrificing routingflexibility. Finally, a Teflon jacket isextruded over the coil or stainlesssteel braid for abrasion resistance.Cheapy controls with poly liners willnot tolerate engine temperatures.Knobs Make a DifferenceOur “pilot friendly” knobs are allcompression molded from a cellulosereinforced copolymer melamine-phenolresin. They are post-mold bakedfor added dimensional stability andstrength. Our phenolic knobs are hardand stable. Unlike the soft injectionmolded knobs, they resist scratchingand do not deteriorate with age. TheMcFarlane knobs meet the latest FARrequirements for shape and color.Vibration Dampening FeaturesThe McFarlane metal swivel jointshave a unique Viton® rubber vibrationdampening sleeve with a spring loadsystem that dampens engine inducedvibration in the push rod guide tubeand metal swivel joint. Molded Vitonboots are also used on the push rodguides to seal out contaminants. TheViton rubber withstands the hightemperature of the engine environmentwhile resisting degradation from oiland solvents. This system drasticallyreduces the vibration fretting andwear that leads to premature controlfailure.Special LubricationDuring assembly the McFarlane controlshave a special lifetime lubricationapplied to critical sliding surfaces. Thismolybdenum disulfide and Teflon basedlubricant with a synthetic grease basehas been specially formulated to reducefriction. It also prevents galling andcontamination locking of the controlcomponents from -70° F to over 1000°F. This lubricant is available only in newMcFarlane controls.Consistent QualityThe production of McFarlane controls isinterrupted many times for inspectionsduring assembly. All of our assemblyand critical inspections are performed100%. Attention is given to everydetail at McFarlane. For instance, weverify the torque required to rotate ourvernier mechanism on every verniercontrol sold.Tough in any EnvironmentThe McFarlane controls have had anoutstanding performance and reliabilityrecord in all environments. We havetested our controls in the harshestenvironments to insure that they willprovide long reliable service in the mostdemanding installations. They workfreely at -50°F and have been provenin harsh saltwater environments. Eventemperatures approaching the meltingpoint of the steel components cannot stop the McFarlane controls fromfunctioning.• Solid metal construction• Pilot friendly knobs• Lifetime lubrication• Superior low friction conduitTime TestedMcFarlane manufactures premier aircraftengine controls. With thousands of unitsin airplanes flying on every continent(yes, even Antarctica), McFarlanecontrols have a proven track record andare universally recognized by aircraftmanufacturers and working pilots.Recommended Service LifeDue to the criticalness of enginecontrols and considering theiroperating environment, the maximumrecommended in service time forMcFarlane engine controls is equal tothe maximum time between engineoverhauls as recommended by theengine manufacturer.Custom ControlsCustom engine controls can bemanufactured for aircraft not listedin the approved eligibility charts. AllMcFarlane custom control cables arebuilt to customer provided specifications.McFarlane custom engine controlsduplicate the original customer suppliedcontrols in regard to length, threadsize, wear sleeve locations, and travellength. McFarlane custom controls aremanufactured to the same standardsusing the same materials, rigoroustesting and inspections as our FAA-PMAproducts; however, custom controls arenot FAA-PMA approved. The user mustobtain the proper FAA approvals to useour custom controls.• Custom controls availableOrder Online at www.mcfarlaneaviation.com or Call 888-750-5251 “MC” prefix denotes McFarlane Aviation, Inc. manufacture 7
