Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve and adjacent properties once supported aviable population of Florida Scrub-Jays, which has declined severely in the past 20 years. The IBA isalso extremely important for breeding Short-tailed Hawks. Bird diversity of all sites combined is 277native species.
