This Plate applied to the medial aspect of the jointfits in most cases. The Plate was developed with Malcolm McKee usingour experience of producing custom plates. (Vet Record, Vol 154, Issue 6,165-170). The Plate is especially strengthened at the stress point aroundthe talus screw. If this plate is not suitable please send a radiograph ortracing and we will design and make a plate for you. If you are faxing adrawing please draw a line 100mm long prior to transmission. See page396 for an actual size profile of the 2.7/3.5mm plate. Based on ourdatabase of manufacturing custom plates for small dogs and cats we arenow in a position to offer two further plates as standard. Surgeons areencouraged to check the patient’s radiograph against our PantarsalArthrodesis profile sheet on page 396 of this catalogue or as a downloadfrom www.vetinst.com Both are designed for medial application. Lateralapplication is acceptable if circumstances dictate. However, you mustorder the ‘wrong’ side.Small Dog 140 degrees 2.7/2.0mm. This Plate will fit most patientsrequiring 2.7mm Screws in the tibia and 2.0mm Screws in the metatarsals.Cat 120 degrees 2.7/2.0(1.5)mm. This Plate is designed to performarthrodesis to the compromised calcanoquartal (hock) joint which iscommonly subject to shearing injuries or fracture dislocations. Proximallythe plate will accept 2.7mm Screws. Veterinary Record 154, 165-170) always included a screw holebetween the metatarsals and the talus so that a screw could be placed topick up the central tarsal bone plus T4 laterally. When we made a study priorto producing the ‘off the shelf’ pantarsal plate we found that the position ofthis hole was not predictable and if the surgeon was unlucky the screwplaced could find itself in a joint space. We took the view that this screw wasnot essential and omitted it.
