(= Lan HsuIs.), Formosa, T. Kano, T. Kano Collection, NSMT-I-He 01 8 07 (NSMT); bff 14,same locality and collector, VIII. 1927 (NSMT); 14, Koto-sho Is. (=Lan Hsu Is.),Formosa, VIII. 1927, T. Kano (KUF); 3ff 244, Lan Hsu, 1974 (MH).Very similar and probably allied to holsti, but differing as follows: Body darkcastaneous to much infuscated brown; frontoclypeus long in frontal view, aboutas long aswide; both lateral sides of pronotum more divergent posteriorly; inner margin of timbalcoveringlongitudinallyoblique; ventral part also blackish brown and markings and spotsFigs. 181-184. Male genitalia of C. kotoshoensis. 181, 182: Pygofer in ventral (181) andlateral (182) views. 183, 184: Theca (183) and its apex with vesica everted (184) inlateral view.
A Revision of the Genus Cryptotympana, II 87very faint; lateral dilatation of mesepimeron expanded outwards apically; apex of foperculum subacute, with the outer margin widely rounded, hardly sinuate; auditorycapsule on 2nd abdominal segment globose laterally; lateral margin of f 7th abdominalsternum more or less emarginate basally; 4 9th tergum slender, ca 1.1 X as long as wide;wings hyaline, and forewing smoky on the apical part with black part appearing on basalcell and areas along veins before nodal line; veins C and Sc+R of forewing adjacent toeach other even before nodal line, and 7th apical cell (cell M4) of forewing wider inparticular.Male genitalia (Figs. 179, 181-184). Very similar to those of holsti; pygofer ratherslender, ca 1.9X as long as wide, not so narrowed even to the apex; uncus lobe wider, with rounded apex (also very similar to that of corvus) and roundly curved inwards; thecavery gently curved in apical 1/2, with a pair of apical projections protruding more distinctand acute; vesica shorter.Body length: f 48-52 mm, 4 44-49 mm. Total length: 69-74 mm.Expanse of forewings: 132-138 mm.Distribution.Taiwan: Lan Hsu Is.This species, endemic to Lan Hsu Is., is closely allied to holsti widely occurring inTaiwan and the Chinese Continent (southern part). Although it is uncertain whetherholsti and kotoshoensis are mutually independent because of the similarity in manymorphological characters, the shape of the f genitalia leads kotoshoensis to a speciesdifferent from holsti.Cryptotympana yaeyamana Kato, 1925(Figs. 145, 165-166, 172, 179, 185-191)Cryptotympana yaeyamana Kato, 1925, Trans, nat.
