If an immediates<strong>to</strong>p is needed where space ahead is limited do the following.• Quickly apply the brake pedal.• Push in the clutch just be<strong>for</strong>e the vehicle s<strong>to</strong>ps or the engine stalls.• Apply as much pressure on the brake pedal as necessary <strong>to</strong> bring the vehicle <strong>to</strong> a s<strong>to</strong>p.Starting on an uphill grade• Keep the right foot firmly on the brake pedal and the left foot fully depressing the clutch. Set the parkbrake firmly.• Keep the clutch fully depressed and the right foot firmly on the brake, and select first or low gear.• Remove right foot from the brake pedal, then apply slight pressure <strong>to</strong> the gas pedal <strong>to</strong> bring theengine <strong>to</strong> higher revolutions (RPMs). This will prevent the vehicle from stalling when it begins <strong>to</strong>move <strong>for</strong>ward.• Release the clutch slowly <strong>to</strong> the friction point and hold it there.• Release the park brake.• Apply slightly more pressure <strong>to</strong> the gas pedal while slowly releasing the clutch fully.• Advance the vehicle slowly <strong>for</strong>ward.97
