A Level (Level 3)Health & Social CareThis course provides you with a broadeducational basis for Higher Education,professional training or employment in Health& Social Care. You will learn about HumanGrowth & Development, Communication& Values, Disease & Health and WellbeingPromotion. You will relate theory to practicethrough work experience and need to completea Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.A Level (Level 3)Information & CommunicationTechnology (ICT)Entry RequirementsYou need at least five GCSEs at C grade or above, includingEnglish Language at grade B and, preferably, Maths at grade C.Course ExpensesEnhanced CRB check - Currently £45. Textbooks -approximately £22 per year. Yeovil College Polo Shirt - £12(optional). Optional trips - approximately £400.Work experienceYou complete at least half a day’s work experience a weekthroughout the course.Trips/ResidentialsThere is an optional over-seas trip to help you explore Health& Social Care in another culture. You may also choose togo directly into relevant paid or voluntary employment.This course will introduce you to the fundamentalsof ICT, providing a foundation from which to extendyour knowledge of this rapidly evolving area.Through practical, hands-on work and theory, youwill learn about the principles of problem solvingusing ICT, the range of applications and the effectsof their use, so that you can apply this understandingwhen developing ICT solutions.Entry RequirementsYou need GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above. GCSEICT is an advantage, but any Level 2 ICT qualification or ICTexperience will be considered.Course ExpensesYou need a 1GB USB memory stick.Career Prospects/ProgressionThe course complements many other A Level subjects, includingMathematics, Science and Humanities-based subjects. You canstudy ICT at university or seek employment.A Level (Level 3) HistoryThe study of History provides a unique andchallenging perspective on the relationshipbetween ordinary people and the political, socialand cultural situation that they fought to change.Entry RequirementsStandard entry requirements apply.Course ExpensesYou are encouraged to buy your own textbooks, althoughsome materials are provided. A Level (Level 3)LawA Level (Level 3)MathematicsDuring this course, you will explore the legalsystem in England and Wales. During year oneyou will gain an overview of the work of the civiland criminal courts and learn the part played bylegal personnel, such as solicitors, barristers andjudges, and lay people, such as magistrates andjuries. You will also learn how laws are made,develop and change over time. During year twoyou will study aspects of Criminal Law.Entry RequirementsYou need five GCSEs at grade A* to C, but you do not needto have studied Law before.Course ExpensesYou may need to contribute towards trips.Trips/ResidentialsThere may be trips to Parliament and the Inns of Court inLondon, as well as visits to a local magistrates’ court,police station and solicitors’ firm.Career Prospects/ProgressionMany subjects go well with Law, including English, History,Sociology, Psychology, Government & Politics and BusinessStudies. Following the A Level, you can apply for universitycourses or seek work in the legal profession, managementor Local Government. You could also consider relatedprofessional qualifications, such as the Chartered Instituteof Legal Executives (CILEx).This course is designed to develop yourunderstanding of a wide range of mathematicalideas and your ability to use them to analyseand solve problems in a variety of applications.It encompasses Algebra, Trigonometry andCalculus (pure Mathematics), an Introduction toStatistics (probability and its application to theanalysis of data) and Mechanics (the applicationof Maths to studying force and motion).Entry RequirementsYou should have achieved a grade A* to B in GCSE Maths.Course ExpensesSubscription to an online learning resource - £3. You willneed a scientific calculator for most modules.Career Prospects/ProgressionThe ability to think mathematically and to use mathematicalproblem solving skills is a great advantage in many universitycourses and careers. Mathematics is a ‘must have’ A Levelfor Physical Sciences, Engineering and any Mathematics-baseddegree.
