TREE OF WORLD UNITY.Copy of the letter sent to all Heads of State and Heads of Government in pursuance of the direction in the Lucknow Declaration 200719th February 2008Subject : 8th International Conference of Chief Justices of the world(7 to 10 December 2007) - Request for action on the resolution.Your Excellency,We are enclosing herewith copy of the Resolution, entitled asthe "Lucknow Declaration-2007', passed by the Hon'ble ChiefJustices and Judges, representing their Chief Justices, fromvarious countries of the world, at the 8th InternationalConference of Chief Justices of the world convened by the CityMontessori School (CMS), Lucknow (India) on 7th to 10thDecember, 2007. The aforementioned Resolution was passed inthe 'Interactive Session' of the Conference after detaileddiscussions by Hon'ble Justices/Judges. A list of Hon'bleJustices/Judges who have assented to and signed the saidResolution is also enclosed for your Excellency's kind perusal. Alist of Hon'ble Chief Justices and Judges who attended theConference is also attached for your kind perusal. Some of theHon'ble Chief Justice and Judges who could not sign theaforementioned Resolution had expressed such views in theirspeeches which are reflected in the Resolution. The Hon'bleJustices have resolved that the aforementioned Resolution besent to Your Excellency for kind consideration andimplementation, as required in the said Resolution, by authoritiesconcerned. A letter has been sent to the Secretary General of theUnited Nations Organisation for consideration and taking suchsteps as may be considered appropriate to safeguard future ofhumankind,especiallychildren.2. The City Montessori School, popularly known as CMS, isimparting value - based quality education to children right fromMontessori classes to Graduate level and has on its roll over32,000 students in the City of Lucknow. According to theGuinness Book of Records, it is the largest school in the worldby pupils on roll in a single city. The vision, philosophy andmission of CMS is to inculcate in the young impressionableminds the concept of world unity and world peace, oneness ofreligion and oneness of God. This concept is inculcated not onlyin the minds of students of CMS but also in the minds ofthousands of students of other schools of India and abroad whocome to participate in about two dozen international academicevents organized by CMS every year. The philosophy, visionand mission of CMS has been appreciated by UNESCO alsowhich has awarded to CMS 'The 2002 UNESCO Prize for PeaceEducation' 'in recognition of its efforts to promote the universalvalues of education for peace and tolerance at a time whenthese values are increasingly being challenged'. The mission ofCMS is also to create world-wide awareness for world peaceand world unity in the interest of humanity. With this end inview, CMS organizes the International Conferences of ChiefJustices of the world on Article 51 of the Constitution of Indiawhich relates to international peace and security. The saidArticle 51 acts as a beacon for us.3. This has unequivocally been acknowledged that children,who are common denominator for all nations, have to beprovided a safe and secure future. The world belongs to them;and it is our bounden duty and obligation to preserve this worldfor the sake of children and future generations. They have aright over us, and on that foundation we have got to be actingas trustees and to see that no more destruction and wars takeplace and other problems which threaten the very existenceand survival of humankind are tackled so that we are able topass on to our children a brighter inheritance than that whichwas bequeathed to us.4. The prevailing situation creates a sense of insecurity andfear in young minds. Large stockpile of Weapons of MassDestruction (WMD), trans-national network of terrorist groupshaving global reach making common cause either on grounds ofreligion or ethnic disputes and environmental degradationresulting in global warming and climate change will have veryserious repercussions and are cause of serious concern. Futureof two-billion children and future generations is at stake and itis our bounden duty to create conditions so as to assure them thatthey will survive and that we are honestly and with dedicationtrying to bequeath to them and future generations a better, unitedand peaceful world. We have also to provide for their shelter, food,potable water, education and health services. And this is possible,the Judges have felt, if the huge resources spent on wars andWMD, defense preparedness and on research of new and moredestructive weapons and their delivery systems are consecratedto the welfare of humankind, especially children.5. The U.N.O. has, through its various organs and agencies,brought about many changes and has taken commendable steps invarious fields. The U.N.O. was established in 1945 and now itrequires to fit in the present world scenario and reflect our hopesand aspirations. However, since the U.N.O. is working for humanemancipation more than any other single organization, it isnecessary to strengthen the authority, prestige and power of theU.N.O. for ensuring a safe future and safe ecology by suchamendments in the U.N. Charter as may be considered expedient.This view has been expressed by Hon'ble Justices at the 8thInternational Conference of Chief Justices. Besides, Hon'ble ChiefJustices and Judges have also strongly supported the idea toempower the International Court of Justice. In the present worldscenario it appears imperative to extend jurisdiction of theInternational Court of Justice to all nations for resolving allinternational disputes and conflicts peacefully and legally.6. Need for creating awareness among children and also amongall sections of society by giving priority to peace education ineducational curricula was considered of primary importance.Besides, creating awareness about international law andfundamental human rights, human values and economic and socialrights was also emphasized. Emphasis was also given toimparting of training about international law and various human,social and economic rights to lawyers and judges in the interest ofhuman welfare and emancipation.7. Hon'ble Judges have, on their part, undertaken, whenever theoccasion arises, to take effective steps to protect and promote thebest interest of children, to promote respect for the dignity ofhumankind and to promote true respect for all religions.8. Excellency, the Hon'ble Judges with their dedication to justice,impartiality and regard to universal values and law are highlyesteemed and trusted by all sections of society because theirminds are conditioned towards justice. They are the consciencekeepers of humankind and custodians of the welfare of humanity'ssilent masses. Therefore, we hope that their views as expressed inthe attached, Resolution - 'The Lucknow Declaration-2007', will begiven due weightage in the interest of humanity in general andchildren in particular because children are wealth of every nationand are loved by one and all, and as such their interest and futureshould not be ignored. As your Excellency may be aware, HenrikTikkanen had said 'Because we don't think about futuregenerations, they will never forget us.' It is our bounden duty tobequeath to our children a better, more united and peaceful worldthan that which was inherited by us.9. Now, therefore, we request that the Resolution - The LucknowDeclaration-2007 kindly be considered by Your Excellency and theGovernment for support at the International level and may be sentto the National Judiciary, Bar Associations and educationauthorities of your country for taking such steps as may beconsidered appropriate in the interest of children and futuregenerations.
