Mamun*, Nazrul Islam**AbstractThis paper aims at identifying the present situation of the health insurance policies in therural areas of Bangladesh and explores factors for successful introduction of health insuranceschemes for the households living in these areas. The study noted that the rural healthinsurance schemes are still in a very formative stage in Bangladesh. Results show that thefactors needed to be considered in introducing rural health insurance schemes are awarenessabout health insurance policy, capacity to pay premium, efforts of NGOs and otherorganizations, availability of modern medication facilities and certified doctors, anddiversification in health insurance policies.
