DISCIPLINE HEARINGSTHE SCHOOL BOARD OF SEMINOLE COUNTYApril 19, 2010The Seminole County Public Schools Discipline Hearing Committee convened on Monday, April19, 2010 for the purpose of reviewing Administrative Assignment(s) and Expulsionrecommendations to be confirmed by Board action.Ms. Sandra Robinson, Seminole County School Board Member and Chairperson was present tohear the Superintendent’s recommendations as Hearing Officer, for the full Board. Mr. GeneGrace was in attendance to present the Superintendent’s recommendations and Mrs. Lyn Donatowas present as clerk, to record recommendations.ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENTSStudents, numbered 1 ~ 6, that did not request an Alternative Assignment Review were providedto the attending board member by Mr. Grace.Superintendent’s Recommendation: Mr. Grace presented the Superintendent’s recommendationthat the Administrative Alternative Assignment(s), as presented, be accepted as a final decisionand not subject to further board action.Recommendation to the Board: That the Alternative Assignment Agenda, as presented, beapproved and is not subject to further board action.ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENT REVIEW AND EXPULSION RECOMMENDATION(S)Ms. Sandra Robinson asked the parents/guardians in attendance for students, numbered 1through 7 on the discipline hearing agenda if they preferred an open or closed hearing. Allparents/guardians in attendance requested a closed hearing. Student’s numbered 2, 3, 4, 5, and7 did not appear before the Hearing Officer and Mr. Grace. The administrator’s for the studentsthat did not appear presented the incident(s) to the Hearing Officer and Mr. Grace.EXPULSION RECOMMENDATION OF STUDENT NO.1 ~ JOURNEYS ACADEMYSuperintendent’s Recommendation: Mr. Grace presented the charge(s) submitted by JourneysAcademy and relayed the Superintendent’s recommendation that student numbered 1 beexpelled and fully excluded from all Seminole County Public Schools through January 2011.Recommendation to the Board: Concur with the Superintendent’s recommendation that studentnumbered 1 be expelled and fully excluded from all Seminole County Public Schools throughJanuary 2011 with the recommendation that student numbered 1 attend one of the following:Operations Right Track; Seminole State College, Boys Town and be randomly drug tested.1Page 7
