A pupil's duties as attendant to his mentor.Appendix XAs noted in Chapter 2, a pupil who is not ill is expected to perform these servicesfor his mentor unless the mentor tells him that he already has another pupil actingas his attendant or the other pupil says that he will accept responsibility for them.On the other hand, if the pupil is ill, the mentor is expected to perform theseservices for the pupil until the latter recovers. This reflects the Buddha's statementthat the pupil should regard the mentor as his father; and the mentor, the pupil ashis son. If both bear this relationship in mind, they are sure to prosper in thepractice of the Dhamma-Vinaya.505
