drawn and engraved by Vigneux. Minor foxing, margins with light browning.<br />

most beautiful natural scientific copper-engraved works of the Baroque era. As almost always<br />
without the “Continuation” which was published in 1714. Johann Christoph Volck<strong>am</strong>er (1644-<br />
1720) was a Nuremberg merchant and also heir to a silk factory in Rovereto. He spent lots of<br />
time with the breeding of lemons and oranges which was very popular in these days. He<br />
expanded his gardens until he owned the biggest one in Nuremburg. The splendid copper plates<br />
were engraved by P. Decker, C. Steinberger and others. The plates, which are in a beautiful<br />
printing condition, show apart from allegorical representations mainly citrus fruits and exotic<br />
plants together with titled topographical views of Nuremberg and its surroundings on one plate,<br />
<strong>am</strong>ongst them lots of gardens. Some of the first plates represent a map of the Lake Garda, views<br />
of Genovese suburb S. Per d’Arena, the Palazzo Doria in Genoa, etc. With the often missing 17page<br />
appendix on the obelisk in the Hippodrom of Constantinople. The first and last pages are a<br />
little bit brown-stained, partly water-stained on the lower margin, concerning only few plates, 2 of<br />
the folded plates with restored tears, front- and endpaper restored in 20th century. Fine copy of<br />
this f<strong>am</strong>ous work.<br />

on neurological anatomy and medical psychology, first published in Oxford in 1672. The author,<br />
Willis, is one of the outstanding physicians of the 17th century. "Seinen Hauptruhm in der<br />
Geschichte der Medizin hat er durch seine gediegenen anat. und physiol. Arbeiten begründet,<br />
welche besonders das Gehirn, speciell das Gefässsystem desselben ("Circulus Willisii")<br />
betreffen." (Hirsch/H.) The plates with anatomical details, bloodstre<strong>am</strong>s and nerves. Inner and<br />
higher margins a bit waterstained, plates with restored tears, some annotations.<br />
