descendant of one of the most distinguished goldsmith families in Renaissance Nuremberg. He
invented optical instruments and fabricated geometric and perspective models. By his own
account he also processed ideas of Albrecht Dürer. The publication of this work was the reason
for his employment as a teacher for perspective at the court of Christian I. in Dresden. Nowadays
Hans Lencker is reckoned as one of the three 16 th century Nuremberg constructivists, along with
Wenzel Jamnitzer and Lorenz Stöer. Minor stocking, slightly water-stained margins on few
with the often lacking list of plates. 41 of the plates are showing birds (mostly in landscapes or
with plants), 7 plants, the other ones are of an elk; monkeys, a chameleon, a turtle and so on.
Most of the plates have watermarks by the famous manufactures of J.Whatman or J.Taylor. The
text by George Shaw was first published in the second editon. Plates in fine contemporary handcolouring,
showing many newly discovered plants and animals, but mostly birds (among parrots
to Iceland, engraved and coloured the plates himself, 41 of which contain figures of birds 'from

the subjects themselves', while the descriptive text for 'Cimelia Physica' is due to George Shaw,
who was employed at the British Museum.” (Anker, S. 34). Banks and Solander are known as
attendents of Cook on his first voayge. Waterstained at lower margin and right corner, partly
extended up to the illustrations, some offsetting to text. Nevertheless a nice copy in bright
