Some prints show slight foxing, parts are slightly waterstained, name and ownership entry on title. VD 17, 23:235409H; Dünnhaupt 27; Graesse VI, 325; ADB 33, 479ff. Caspar Schoppe (1576-1649) is regarded as one of the most significant philologist and publicist of his days. In this work, which was considered to be a vituperative attack on a text of Scaliger, Schoppe challenges in a very ironic way Scaligers supposedly noble ancestry from the Veronese House of ‘della Scala’. Loosened, stamp on title, parts are very browned, edges partly waterstained, last pages show small wormholes. Copy out of the collection Carlo Booi (Bibliot. Contemporary half calf, with labels and slightly gilt spines, (corners and end of spines slightly worn, covers slightly rubbed, spines a little faded). £ 280.00 Complete illustrated edition of Shakespeare’s works with an introductory essay written by Barry Cornwall, which was the pseudonym of the English poet Bryan Waller Procter (1787-1874). Volume I: Comedies, Volume II: Tragedies, Volume III: Historical Plays, Poems and Sonnets. Short introduction and annotations are added to every play. Steel engravings and woodcuts are based on drawings of Kenny Meadows (1790-1874). Partly with minor foxing, but apart from that a fine and clean copy. 79 SLEVOGT - GOETHE, (Johann Wolfgang). Faust. Large-Folio. 1 white, 1 unn. l., 460 pp., 2 unn. ll., with 510 (447) original lithographs, 10 full-page original etchings and 1 etched title vignette by Max Slevogt. Original cloth with gilt stamped lettering „Faust“ on cover and spine, gilt ornamental lines in cloth slipcase, (binding slightly worn and minimally spotted). £ 3.700.00 First edition that contains these illustrations. One of 250 numbered copies; imprint signed by artist. Rümann 25a; Lang 227; Slg. Kippenberg 7986. The lithographs were printed by W. M. Lassally, the etchings by C. Sabo and the text pages by J. Hegner, Hellerau. This book is the most important work of the famous German painter and illustrator Max Slevogt, because of its brilliant and outstanding symbiosis of illustration and text. On some pages the lithographs are larger than the type area. Pages 254-263 show some minor foxing on the lower margin. This anthology was published by Leonhard Christoph Sturm (1669-1719), who was the most significant architectural
theorist in his days. The work contains 3 later editions (parts 2, 16 and 7) of the series „Der vermeuerte Grundmann“, which altogether contains 18 parts The illustrations show the order of colums after Goldmann, ornaments of colums, agricultural properties and castles with gardens and stables as well as different types of residential buildings. Loose leaves in original brochure in original cloth boards with gilt label, in original cloth slipcase, (slightly dusted). £ 950.00 First edition. One of 65 (altogether only 90) numbered copies printed on Japon Misumi. Signatures of author and artist on the imprint, frontispiece also signed by Ubac. The poems were written by the French poet and essayist André Frénaud (1907-1991), who published several essays on Ubac. Very fine and fresh copy. 82 UBAC, Raoul. (Paris), Maeght, 1961. With prints of the re-engraved plates from the 1603 edition. This edition is not in the “Katalog Ornamentstichsammlung Berlin”. Apart from the order of colums, the plates represent some porches of Michelangelo as well as 3 tombs. Partly spotted (stronger on the last pages), finger-stained margins, plate A6 with signs of ink drawing verso, plate A8 with arithmetic series on back, last plate with name tag on back, inner hinge restored. 84 WICKRAM, Jörg. Later parchment, (a bit spotted). £ 5.800.00 Very scarce! All signs seemed to be evidence that it is the reference copy of Hayn/Gotendorf. This edition not in VD 16 and not in Goedecke. Hayn/G. VIII, 397 f.; ADB 42, 328 ff. Like all 16th century editions of works by Wickram very rare, we didn‘t find any copy at German auctions past 1945. The second part with the title: Die Gartengesellschaft. (by Jacob Frey); and the third part with the title: Der Wegkürtzer (by Martin Montanus). A first edition of this compilation was published in 1565 in Frankfurt. "Der Rollwagen" by Wickram (1505-1561), is one of the most famous compilation of popular stories of the 16th century and was published in several editions. "Den Bibliographen unbekannte Ausgabe. Weder Goedeke, noch Stöber in seinem Buch über Wickrams Schriften, Mühlhausen 1866, noch endlich H. Kurz in seiner Neuausgabe des Rollwagens erwähnen den vorliegenden Druck. Diese Werkchen gehören zu den grössten Seltenheiten der deutschen Literatur des XVI. Jahrhunderts." (Martin Breslauer, 1909, nach Hayn/G. VIII, 398). Title in red and black. Strong stemp on title verso. Leaves 143-150 in part 3 in a handwritten copy of the 19th century. Partly browned and a bit waterstained, 2 leaves with an inkspot, some leaves a bit trimmed.
